HoopsHype Chris Paul rumors

December 15, 2014 Updates

The Clippers have emerged from the Donald Sterling horror show reasonably intact, with an owner who'll spend anything on anything if it will make the product just a little better. But the most important pieces were already in place. Griffin begat Paul, and Paul begat Rivers. L.A. will go as far as their All-Stars take them. "They're two of the best players in the world, and they make things easier for us," Redick said. "When they run that screen and roll with pace, they're tough to guard. It's like pick your poison. Those are our two best offensive players, the guys we're going to go to down the stretch. They're essential to what we're trying to do offensively." NBA.com

If you were watching closely during Wednesday's matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and Detroit Pistons, you might have noticed that Clippers point guard Chris Paul had something written on his sneakers: ... but you might not have known why the All-Star had "L.E.G." on his kicks. "L.E.G." stands for Lisa Elaine Gallagher, who died in early September after fighting glioblastoma — a cancerous tumor that develops in the supportive tissue of the brain, can spread quickly and aggressively, and often leads to severe headaches, nausea, and memory and/or speech difficulties — for nearly a year. She was 49. She left behind a husband, Michael, and six children. Yahoo! Sports

Who could forget the former NBA commissioner citing "basketball reasons" for vetoing the trade that was supposed to send Paul to the Lakers, Pau Gasol to Houston and Lamar Odom to New Orleans in December 2011? The Lakers appeared to have acquired their most dynamic point guard since Magic Johnson, but then small-market owners raised a racket, Cleveland's Dan Gilbert in particular calling the trade a "travesty" in a lengthy letter to the league. David Stern said no. The deal was off. "Sometimes you want to say, 'Dammit, David Stern,'" Lakers Coach Byron Scott said before Friday's game. "When they made the trade, before David kind of X'd it, I was like, 'Wow, that's going to be fantastic.'" Los Angeles Times

Blake Griffin: Of course, he tried to spin it that way. After we beat Golden State, Sterling did the infamous interview with Anderson Cooper. Thankfully, commissioner Adam Silver had already taken quick action to ban him from the NBA for life. I was sitting in the trainer’s room getting treatment with Chris Paul during the Oklahoma City series when the interview came on the TV. Sterling looked at Cooper with no irony whatsoever and said, “Ask the players. My players love me!” CP and I looked at one another from across the room and just tried our best not to laugh. We were hoping after Silver’s decision that it was over, but the circus wouldn’t end. The first question I got asked at my locker the next day by a reporter was, “Blake, do you love Donald Sterling?” The Players' Tribune

Chris Paul wasn’t happy with the defense played by his team during its 112-94 loss to visiting Golden State on Tuesday in an exhibition opener. It wasn’t surprising, then, to hear Paul’s response Saturday morning when he was asked what he’d like to see from his team when it plays Sunday at Portland (6 p.m., Prime Ticket). “I’m hoping that we play defense a lot better,” Paul said. “You know, we’re trying to be a very unique team that defends very well and plays at a very nice pace, up-tempo. That’s not something that usually goes together like that, so we’re trying to put all the pieces together, and trying to keep that continuity going with both units.” Los Angeles Daily News
