After another embarrassing loss in front of their home crowd, the Sacramento Kings are beginning to show major cracks. Just nine games into the 2012-13 season, veterans Chuck Hayes and Francisco Garcia called a players’ only meeting last night while media members waited anxiously outside their locker room door. Sounds as if Keith Smart's hope his team would bond in the offseason is happening. Ten of the players on the roster are in Sacramento working out and playing 5-on-5. The only players that could not be in town are John Salmons, James Johnson, Chuck Hayes and Francisco Garcia. It's important that young nucleus that the franchise is depending on (DeMarcus Cousins, Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton) is in town. Also have to like that new PG Aaron Brooks is getting to know his new teammates. Definitely a step in the right direction and something that's needed to build team chemistry. Sulia

Even as they acquired the 12th pick in the first round of Thursday's NBA Draft from Milwaukee in a deal that sent center Samuel Dalembert to the Bucks along with the 14th overall pick and guard Shaun Livingston and forwards Jon Leuer and Jon Brockman, the Houston Rockets were still trying to move even higher, into the top 10. But their offer of guard Kyle Lowry along with the 16th pick overall to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for the fifth pick overall and forward Chuck Hayes was rejected Wednesday by Sacramento, according to league sources. Entering Thursday, the Kings were in the bottom four in the league in opponents' field-goal percentage, assists and points allowed. "We just don't talk," said forward Chuck Hayes. "If you wire everybody up (during a game), I bet it would be silent." Sacramento Bee

Rumors flew that Hayes' condition could potentially be life threatening. The Kings voided his contract and he went from being a jubilant free agent looking to make a new start close to his hometown of San Leandro to feeling lost. "All sorts of things were going through my mind," he said. "I was wondering what the next step in my life would be? What was I gonna do? It's not like I felt sick or that anything was wrong. I still had my competitive drive, my passion for the game. But I realized that it might not be an option for me anymore. "I'll admit that I had my doubts about playing again. All I could do was say, 'Lord, if you don't want me to play basketball, then you're going to have show my something else to do with my life.'"But at the same time, I wasn't ready to give up hope just like that. I got with the people close to me and I took the right steps to try to explore every option and get all of the right answers. That's how I ended up at the Cleveland Clinic." NBA.com

The Kings announced Friday that forward- center Chuck Hayes would miss three to four weeks with a dislocated left shoulder. Hayes left Thursday's win over the Milwaukee Bucks with 5:59 left in the second quarter. With his left arm extended, he collided with Milwaukee's Drew Gooden. Hayes, the Kings' captain, has started all eight games this season. He averages 5.6 points and 7.8 rebounds. Sacramento Bee

The Kings' veteran and vocal leader played 8 minutes and 40 seconds in the win before exiting with 5:59 left in the first half. But according to Smart and several players, Hayes' impact on the game began well before tip-off. Hayes organized a players-only meeting Thursday morning to watch and critique game film following the Kings' 110-83 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night, which dropped them to 2-5 to start the season. At the meeting, said DeMarcus Cousins, players "had our heart-to-hearts, we all discussed what we need to do better, we all held each other accountable. Chuck, he got on the bigs. I got on the bigs. (Francisco Garcia) got on the guards. "It showed tonight," Cousins said. "We went over film and showed our mistakes, just rotations and how in the offense we catch (the ball) and just stop. So we went over a lot and we got a good thing out of it." Sacramento Bee

Sacramento Kings big man Chuck Hayes has dislocated his left shoulder and will be out indefinitely. Hayes extended his left arm and fouled Milwaukee center Drew Gooden in the second quarter Thursday night. His arm seemed to get tangled with Gooden and his shoulder popped out. Hayes lay on the floor writhing in pain for a few minutes, the arena falling so silent that his screams could be heard from the sideline. He walked off under his own power holding his arm. "I've known him since '09 when he was going into his freshman year [at Kentucky]," Hayes said. "He's a tremendous talent. Maybe it takes a couple more years for him to get it or for him to figure out this game and how he can best dominate this game. "But right now, the guy -- as good as he is talented, that's how much he is emotional. He'll show everything. And in this game, you have to have short-term memory. Learn to forget about it and move on. ... I've talked to [Cousins] so many times on the practice court, in the games, during the middle of the game, just so he doesn't have an outburst, just so his mood and his spirits will stay up and he'll see the brighter picture." “He’s family,” said Kings guard Marcus Thornton, who found the supposed request alarming. “He’s part of the team. That’s why I say after this is all over with, I’m going to give him a call and see what’s going on.” The starting center’s status remains up-in-the air for the Kings upcoming road trip to Memphis and Denver. However, veteran big man and recent free agent acquisition Chuck Hayes is optimistic Cousins will return. “I believe he’ll come around,” said Hayes, who’s taken it upon himself to mentor the young center this season. “He’s a competitor, he wants to play, he loves his game. I’m sure it’s eating him up that he’s at home and he has to sit there and watch instead of competing with his teammates. But that’s a decision that the office and the coaching staff, they’ll all have to come up with. And us as pros, we’re going to have to just go out there and perform.” Cowbell Kingdom

Kings forward/center Chuck Hayes made his return to Sacramento on Friday night, concluding an emotional eight day roller coaster. "It feels good, it's been a long week," Hayes said, speaking exclusively to News10 at the Sacramento International Airport as he arrived from his home in Houston. "I'm just happy I'm here and happy I'm healthy." news10.net

"It was a weird chain of events - just finishing Media Day (on Thursday), getting through the day, I was excited to scrimmage in front of the fans (that night)," Hayes said. "They hit me with the news and every day after that was just, like bad news until Thursday morning. "I was more scared because I didn't know what was going on. I didn't know what was wrong with me. The doctors said the found some dysfunctional abnormality in my heart, but I felt fine." news10.net
