The Nuggets acquired shooting guards Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer from Dallas, a source said, in exchange for a future second-round pick. The Nuggets were able to make the deal because of a trade exception acquired during the big Carmelo Anthony trade. Fernandez could possibly start for Denver at shooting guard. He averaged 8.6 points per game for the Trail Blazers last season - he was traded to Dallas in the summer. ![]() Dallas Mavericks forward Corey Brewer returned to the Dyckman League in Washington Heights for the second straight night. As it turns out, he never wanted to leave New York in the first place. Brewer was part of the three-team deal that sent him from the Timberwolves to the New York Knicks along with Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Anthony Carter coming from the Denver Nuggets. "It was tough. I liked being a Knick. I felt like I could help but they didn't feel the same way. No hard feelings. I got in a better situation. I finally won a championship. I would have wanted to stay here in New York because New York is a great city." ESPN.com Brewer told ESPNdeportes.com that he held no grudges against the Knicks, who bought him out. He then signed on with the Mavericks. Brewer's team, OOH Way Records, started the evening's first game of a triple-header, but the game was stopped with OOW Way leading 54-50 as the rain started to fall. ESPN.com |

Brewer, the seventh overall pick in 2007 by the Minnesota Timberwolves, received offers from the Mavericks and the Celtics after being released by the New York Knicks. “I seriously considered the Celtics, a lot,” said Brewer, who is making his first career NBA Finals appearance with Dallas. “And eventually I thought I was going to go to Boston. But then at the last minute we struck a nice deal with Dallas and we felt like this was the best situation for us.” Boston Globe |

A surprise addition to the onetime Knicks is the Dallas Mavericks’ Corey Brewer, who guarded Kobe Bryant for a stretch in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinals series. Brewer will not show up in any Knicks statistics. He was a bit part in the three-team deal for Carmelo Anthony and was sent to the Knicks by the Minnesota Timberwolves before finding his way to Dallas a week later. Coach Mike D’Antoni said he could not guarantee Brewer playing time, and Donnie Walsh, the team president, agreed to buy out Brewer’s contract at the behest of his agent Happy Walters, who also represents Amar’e Stoudemire and Shawne Williams. “When I first got traded, I thought it was going to be a possibility,” Brewer said of playing for the Knicks. “I really liked the situation. They play up and down, which is what I like to do, but I guess they had other plans.” New York Times |

The three-year guaranteed contract -- worth in excess of $7 million when the sides agreed to the deal after Brewer was traded by Minnesota to New York in the Carmelo Anthony deal and then bought out by the Knicks -- has been officially recorded at nearly $9.2 million because of unspecified bonuses that are deemed as "likely." The year-by-year breakdown as the contract currently appears on the Mavs' books: $2,875,000 this season, $3,059,000 in 2011-12 and $3,243,000 in 2012-13. ESPN.com |
