Kendall said he was pleased with the way San Antonio Spurs first round pick Cory Joseph has handled himself since joining the team — and not just in terms of adapting to the increased physicality. “I’ve been most impressed with his attitude, not having a sense of entitlement (from being a first round selection),” Kendall said of the Pickering native, who turned 20 on Saturday. “He understands guys have been here (a while), he’s got to prove himself before he gets that respect. He has to earn it to a certain extent so that’s what I’ve been most surprised (about). It’s nice to see that.” Toronto Sun

Canada is trying to avoid missing three straight Olympics for the first time. The team made the world championships last year for the first time since 2002 in part by defeating the favoured Dominican Republic at the last FIBA Americas tournament. “I’m sure they will have revenge on their mind,” Kendall said of the Dominican squad, which features NBA players Al Horford, Francisco Garcia and Charlie Villanueva and is coached by Kentucky’s John Calipari. Argentina and Puerto Rico traditionally are strong opponents as well. Brazil will be without its NBA players Leandro Barbosa, Nene and Anderson Varejao, while Joseph’s future San Antonio teammate Tiago Splitter is questionable due to an injury. Toronto Sun

After his first practice with the senior team on Friday, Joseph said how excited he was to be taking part and explained why he was playing. “I hadn’t played in a while, college was a long time ago, (it’s been) a couple months where I haven’t played a game so it’s just good to get out here,” Joseph said. “Playing for your country is an honour and (the Spurs) know that.” Toronto Sun

The Pistons held their first big workout of the year on Wednesday. Cleveland State's Norris Cole, Malcolm Lee, Andrew Goudelock, Cory Joseph, Kalin Lucas and Andrew Albicy all participated. Keep an eye out for Cole. He's been really rising on a number of draft boards. Not only has he tested out as one of the best athletes in the draft, but he really looked like he belonged out there with the other, more highly-rated point guards in the draft. When you look at his body of work in college over the past couple of years, there's a lot to be impressed with. He could be a sleeper first-round selection. ESPN.com

Following weeks of pull-outs by high profile prospects which left general managers with high lottery picks cursing their luck, a handful of players — including Ontario natives Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph — decided on Sunday to close the book on their NCAA careers in search of NBA glory. Though a strong argument could be made that the duo would have been served well by returning to the Texas Longhorns to play with a national title contender, it is hard to fault them for going pro. Of the group, Joseph's decision might make the most sense. One source close to the player told ESPN Insider on Sunday night that a team promised to draft him in the early second round. Although the source wasn't 100 percent clear which team it was, a little more digging revealed that the Cleveland Cavaliers were the team that seemed to be the highest on Joseph. The Cavs own the 31st pick in the draft, which is the the first pick of the second round. ESPN.com

The combine is jointly conducted by the Nets, Knicks and Rockets. Many sure-bet first rounders declined invitations while others, such as Boston College point guard Reggie Jackson withdrew. "Very rough decision. Right now, it's 50-50. It could go either way," said Joseph. "I've got to sit with my mom and make my decision [today]. Everyone has their opinion but everyone is telling me to do what's best for me." New York Post

Joseph described himself as "a guy who will try to do whatever it takes to win, whether it's taking a charge, passing distributing the ball, knocking down open threes. People describe me as someone who works hard gets out there and is able to shoot." Peterson went to Providence from Brooklyn's Boys and Girls High. He was dismissed from the team for "violation of team rules." According to an article on hoopsreport.com, Peterson was asked to show recruits a good time and may have shown them too good of a time with a female friend. So he played in Greece, ended up in the D-League with New Mexico and automatically became eligible for the draft. "Basically, I'm showing [NBA brass] that I'm not baggage," said Peterson who has an agent. "I'm not worried [about the past]. I don't know what the outcome of the situation is going to be. I've just got to move on and move forward." New York Post
