He says the scene was unlike anything he’s ever seen before. “Any time you have superstar in this league go down like that, it’s something you don’t ever want to see again,” Lillard said to CSNNW.com via phone Saturday night. “It was tough to see, very emotional. Unreal, but out of respect for P.G. and his family, I think we just need to stay away from that topic. We don’t want them reliving that terrible incident.” CSNNW.com

Coach Mike Krzyzewski: "Damian's one of the up-and-coming young guards. He had a great year. He can play both positions, which is what we're going to require all our guards to do. There's going to be a lot of competition at the guard spot. All those guys are good. And that'll be the toughest call." Oregonian

I tracked down Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving and John Wall — every prospective national team point guard except Derrick Rose — and asked them to describe Lillard's game. Below is what they had to say about the Trail Blazers' All-Star: Kyrie Irving: "He's a tremendous shooter. And then (he has) finishing ability as well. He's so crafty around the rim. I don't think he gets a lot of credit for that. People think he's an over-the-rim finisher, but he has both. He has the ability to take off and finish below the rim as well. So he's a versatile player, versatile point guard, and he fits the mold of where our point guard position is going, which is having that scoring ability and being able to run the team, as well. The National Basketball Association warned a touring group of its stars that they could face financial fines for participating in clinics in Manila, Philippines, that include short scrimmages and games of "H-O-R-S-E," league sources told Yahoo Sports. Several NBA stars, including Blake Griffin, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard and Damian Lillard, were scheduled to participate in promotional appearances in Manila this week, and the NBA has told its Players Association that the event organizers failed to gain league approval, sources said. Damian Lillard gained lots of fans after he took some Portland kids on a surprise holiday shopping spree at Toys 'R' Us. Lillard, the 2013 NBA rookie of the year, might have earned even more after he stood up for a Special Olympics participant who had been mocked on Twitter. Here is the sequence of Lillard explaining his pride of accompanying a Special Olympics athlete to the ESPYs, a fan's callous comment and the star's sharp response. Yahoo! Sports

Lillard says the pickup of Steve Blake was “big” and added that he’s looking forward to playing alongside him. But he admitted that it was a bit difficult to wrap his mind around the fact that his “brother” wouldn’t be around anymore. “I was disappointed because that’s my brother,” Lillard told CSNNW.com. “He’s always been there for me. When I did something wrong, he was the first one showing showing me how I should have done it. “When I did something good, he was the first person telling me how proud he was of me. When I’m alone on the road, he’s the one that’ll come hang with me. That’s my guy. I thought he would be coming back, but I understand this is a business.” CSNNW.com

“ Tell me one guy that they’ve found that nobody knew about . We know about the guys they’ve missed. Two years ago they were down on Damian Lillard. He was too old [then 21 after four years at Weber State without attracting enough interest to enter the draft]. He didn’t play in a major conference. He wasn’t a steals guy. He didn’t shoot a lot of free throws. “They loved Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. He got a lot of rebounds and steals. He went to the line. He just couldn’t shoot. How did that work out?” Forbes.com

The NBA Social Media Awards concluded Monday and Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has been announced as this year's Social MVP, an all encompassing award that stretches across platforms to a player's social networking pages including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. CSNNW.com

"Now we're not a team thinking get to the playoffs," added guard Wesley Matthews. "We're not a team thinking fight for the eighth spot. All that writing's out the window now. Now it's how do we get out of the second round?" "I think we understand what it takes to make it to the playoffs now," point guard Damian Lillard said. "We understand what it looks like to be a championship team because we just played against a championship team in the Spurs and we got to see firsthand what you can and can't do (in the playoffs). We just need to grow. I just think we need to go home and get better and come back ready to be a better team." Oregonian
