Miami Heat MVP LeBron James hosted a party Saturday night at Tao in The Venetian to celebrate his NBA team’s back-to-back championship. Before James arrived at The Heat Repeat Championship Party in a leather Miami Heat cap, he dined at Tao with a large group that included NBA players Damon Jones and Juwan Howard. The party enjoyed signatures off the menu, while James requested blackened salmon with asparagus before heading upstairs to the nightclub. Las Vegas Sun

Damon Jones was once one of the NBA’s leading 3-point shooters during his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he played with 10 teams over 11 seasons. He longed to return to the league after being waived by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2008 but he never received the opportunity. Four years later, he asked Celtics summer league coach Tyronn Lue for an opportunity to sit on the sideline. The 36-year-old Jones was leading young men in the Las Vegas Summer League instead of getting one final look to vie for a roster spot. His transition to the post- career Damon Jones has begun, and he said he enjoyed his five-game experience on the Celtics sideline. “I am officially retired and looking to get on the other side, whether it be coaching, management, or whatever the situation may be,” he said. “I thought that this would be some good exposure to be able to help. Tyronn, being one of my closest friends, gave me the opportunity, so I am doing whatever I can to help him.” Boston Globe

“A lot of different teams were reaching out to me and I was weighing my options,” Brewer said to HOOPSWORLD. “At the end of the day, it didn’t come down to money. It came down to the best situation for me, as a person and as a player. I wanted to go somewhere I could win and have success. I wanted to go to a situation where playing basketball would be fun and I would enjoy doing it. You can go to a team that’s not as a good so that you thrive a little bit more, even though you’re losing, but that’s not fun to me. I wanted to go to a place where I could win.” “From day one, the Knicks were on me and my agent,” Brewer said. “I had some relationships with people in the organization. Darrell Walker, one of the assistant coaches, and Damon Jones, who works in the front office, both went to Arkansas and they reached out to me. Coach Woodson reached out to me and the GM reached out to me as well. I felt like they really wanted me and I was an important target for their team, maybe the missing piece for them to be successful. It felt good to have the coaches and management reach out to me and recruit me.” HoopsWorld

Nick Young announced on Twitter that he would boycott Michael Jordan’s shoes, based on Jordan’s hard-line stance as an owner in the NBA lockout. But since Josh Howard is a Jordan Brand athlete, Young had no choice but to wear the Jumpman logo on his uniform while participating in Howard’s charity game on Saturday in Dallas. Young didn’t bother pulling a Jordan by covering up the logo the way Jordan did during the 1992 Olympics when Nike’s greatest pitch man draped an American flag over the Reebok patch on his Team USA victory sweat suit. The Wizards free agent guard still scored a team-high 32 points and provided several highlight dunks to lead his Blue team to a 139-128 victory over Howard’s White team, which featured an unlikely facilitator in Kevin Durant (22 assists, 24 points) and an even more unlikely high scorer in former NBA player Damon Jones (54 points). The Heat have a few spots available and are looking for shooters. Are you actively seeking one of those spots? Damon Jones.: I’m actively seeking any spot! (laughing) I feel that I have a lot of game left in me at a high level. I just want an opportunity to win as well. The game has provided me a great deal of fortune to me at this point. I’m looking to go somewhere where I can fit in and play a role to help a team win. That’s my only goal. If one of those spot are held for me or if I could fill one of those spot, I would love to be a part of that. I think a lot of special things are going to come out of that city, but we’ll have to wait and see. ProBasketballNews.com

Everyone knows that you are pretty close with Lebron. What did you make of Cleveland’s reaction to his decision, the burning of jerseys, the quitting allegations, and your thoughts on Dan Gilbert? Damon Jones.: I was definitely disappointed. That guy laid it all on the line for seven years and he had an opportunity to better his situation. I think the fans, as well as Dan Gilbert, the organization, and the city of Cleveland did a disservice with the things that they did after his decision to leave. The city of Cleveland is a great city and they have some of the best fans in the NBA. Dan Gilbert has shown that he’s a top-tier owner in going out and making the organization better by spending the money. He brought in players, he’s got a new practice facility, so I was definitely disappointed in the reactions of both the Cleveland fans and Dan Gilbert. I understand when your franchise guy leaves and goes elsewhere, the team as well as the organization and the city is going to take a hit, but I think they could of did it in a more classier way.
