Dan Fegan: "After receiving these media inquiries, I called Rob and left several messages expressing concern that what had occurred in the meeting was not going to be accurately reported -- as had happened on previous occasions -- and that we were going to respond to the media inquiries to make sure that reports were accurate. To a limited extent, that is what we did." ESPN.com |

![]() NBA Commissioner David Stern called out Orlando center Dwight Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, as the primary unnamed source leaking details of a recent meeting between Howard and Magic executives. Asked what he thought of the Howard situation, which threatens to engulf another season for the Magic, Stern chided Fegan. "It's very unique, especially if it's driven by a quote source that happens to be Dwight's agent," Stern told USA TODAY Sports in a telephone interview. " 'A source in the meeting. Oh, OK, who might that be?" USA Today Does he think it could be new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan? "No, I don't, and I don't think it's (Magic CEO) Alex Martins either," Stern said. USA Today Jab aside, Stern says he is comfortable with how Howard's tumultuous situation is playing out. Howard wants out of Orlando, and the Magic are unwilling to trade him unless a deal yields what Hennigan wants as the Magic begin to rebuild: salary cap relief, young talent and draft picks. "To me, it is the soap opera our fans turn in for - the drama on the court and the drama off the court," Stern said. "When we cease to have a story popping up, we probably won't exist. "I think what it is, is that that's the way we are. That's the way it has been in baseball and the NFL and hockey and basketball. And frankly, it engages our fans, it engages our reporters, it engages our bloggers. It makes people happy, mad, sad. It's just the life in sports." USA Today |

Unless Howard signs a three-year extension – which his agent, Dan Fegan, has said his client will not do with any team – Howard becomes a free agent on July 1, 2013, regardless of where he is playing. If he is still with the Magic, they could negotiate sign-and-trades next summer. SheridanHoops |

![]() Rick Bonnell: Agent Dan Fegan has had a productive relationship with #Bobcats. Wonder if there's room for compromise on Kris Humphries Twitter His agent, Dan Fegan, also represents Howard. That seems to be muddying the waters, since the best interests for Howard and Humphries are in direct contrast of each other. Fegan told Sports Illustrated on Monday that it’s “ridiculous” to think he would negotiate a deal that guarantees only one season. “I have not had one conversation about a one-year [guaranteed] deal,” Fegan said. Hennigan said on Monday that Howard reiterated a trade request last Friday when the two met in Los Angeles. Specifically, Howard asked to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets where he could play in the New York City market and team with close friend Deron Williams. Hennigan, who was hired by the Magic on June 21, described the talks with Howard (privately) and with his agent, Dan Fegan, as ``engaging and polite’’ and ``emotion neutral,’’ but he made no promises as what direction Orlando would go in the coming days and weeks. ``As I told Dwight, `I don’t know, I need to think about what you are telling me. I want to take some time and think about everything,’’’ Hennigan said of the talks. ``We’re going to continue to map out what we feel is in the best interests of our team. Any decision that we decide to go forward with will be one that we feel puts our team in a position to be successful.’’ NBA.com |

Howard and his agent, Dan Fegan, have repeatedly told the Magic in recent weeks that Howard wants to be moved, and that his preferred destination of the Brooklyn Nets hasn’t changed, sources said. Nevertheless, time is running out for Howard to be traded to Brooklyn because Nets general manager Billy King has begun to aggressively explore deals for players like Joe Johnson, Luis Scola and O.J. Mayo in an attempt to surround free-agent point guard Deron Williams with more talent. Yahoo! Sports |

Howard stopped talking to his agent, Dan Fegan, about the situation before the trade deadline, and Fegan still has no clue what’s going on in Howard’s inner circle, where non-basketball people seem to be calling the shots. Despite all of this, Magic ownership is not willing to part with Howard, no matter how much new GM Rob Hennigan might want to, especially with the Houston Rockets busily collecting first round picks to send the Magic so Hennigan can rebuild in the model of the Oklahoma City Thunder, who he helped Sam Presti build. ![]() The push comes despite the fact that Howard appears to have no interest in staying in Houston beyond next season. But the Rockets, who are flush with potential salary-cap space and could sign another star to pair with Howard, appear willing to take the gamble. Sources said the Rockets have yet to engage Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, on the idea of playing in Houston. If and when they do, one of the sources said, it would be made clear that, even if the Rockets were to win a championship, Howard would still intend to become a free agent next summer. SI.com |
