Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert wants to bring the NBA All-Star game back to Cleveland. Gilbert, who opened his new downtown casino Monday, said he plans to approach the league about hosting a future All-Star weekend. He hopes Cleveland would be able to get one “in the next few years.” The city last hosted the mid-season event in 1997, when the league celebrated its 50th anniversary. Gilbert said Cleveland is again poised to hold such an event because of his casino as well as a downtown convention center under construction. Akron Beacon Journal |

![]() NBA Commissioner David Stern says he's a fan of Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. Really. "I like Dan a lot," said Stern, who took a break from a skiing vacation to take in the Cavaliers' game against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night at Pepsi Center. Cleveland Plain Dealer Stern says he never saw the email the night Gilbert sent it, and the deal was never done. So when Gilbert called the commissioner to give him a heads up that Yahoo! Sports had obtained a copy of the email and written a story about it, it was news to Stern. "Yahoo had gotten it out," Stern recalled. "I saw it at 6:30 a.m. when my cell phone rang. It may have been 6:45. I had finished up the board meeting that Thursday, I was on my way down to a press conference when I, as the owner representative, determined that the Hornets would not enter into the trade that was being proposed, and having just been through a relatively bruising meeting of the board, I went home. "I don't sleep with my phone at the bedside so I had to go running into the next room to pick it up and there it was. 'Hi, Dan.'" Cleveland Plain Dealer Stern can joke about it now. "In my pastoral role, I've suggested that he should always do a first draft and then put it in a drawer for a while or show it to his wife before he lets it go, but other than that, you've got to love him -- and, actually, because of that, you've got to love him," Stern said. "I think Dan is going to be more prudent in his reactions, but I'm very happy for him. He's so committed to Cleveland and I think that's the well from which these communications spring. He cares deeply about the team and the community and he wants to put on a good game." Cleveland Plain Dealer |

![]() Asked about a report that he or someone close to him had reached out to Dan Gilbert about Cavaliers reunion down the road in free agency, LeBron James said following Friday's game, "It's not true, it's not true at all." Sulia James didn't deny he was happy to hear potential for a warm reception from the fans who once cheered for him. He did, however, deny a Yahoo! Sports report earlier in the day that said his camp has reached out to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert to express interest in someday returning to Cleveland. "That's not true," James said. "Not true at all." Cleveland Plain Dealer #Cavs owner Dan Gilbert will have no comment on LBJ remarks. He can't talk abt another team's player without risk of league discipline. Twitter |

![]() Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has bought the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League. Gilbert's ownership group purchased the team from Jim Ferraro, an area attorney who has owned the Gladiators since 2000. A news conference to announce the sale is scheduled for Tuesday at Quicken Loans Arena, home of the Cavs and Gladiators. Ferraro moved the franchise to Las Vegas in 2002, and five years later took it to Cleveland after teaming up with former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar, who has served as a part owner and advisor. Mike Brown: “Dan Gilbert and I, we were in contact at the end of the season and we had talked for about a week and he just felt they needed to go in another direction, especially with all the speculation going on with LeBron [James]. LeBron possibly leaving and so on and so fourth. I don’t fault him at all. It’s his team. He’s done a terrific job putting that team on the map because without his commitment? I don’t care who is in uniform. I don’t care who is coaching the team? You are not going to win without ownership that has a plan and it’s backing whatever plan it is to have success. I understand it is a business. Sports Radio Interviews |
