Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger's ankle is swollen "like a small softball" and he's on "every type of anti-inflammatory" he's ever heard of, but he plans to play as his team faces elimination against the Miami Heat Thursday night. Granger sprained his left ankle Tuesday in the first half of the Pacers' 32-point Game 5 loss when he came down on LeBron James' foot after a shot attempt. He attempted to return but didn't last long and has been in a walking boot. But with the season on the line, he's going to try to play through it. "I have to play," Granger said. "With an elimination game, our backs against the wall, I have to play." ESPN.com

But they were competitively soft, falling to pieces when they lost their top scorer and captain, Danny Granger, to an ankle injury. "It was disheartening," Granger said. "The whole night was. Everything we said we needed to do to win, we did none of it. We abandoned the game plan." Indianapolis Star

Tuesday's game in Miami was marred by three flagrant fouls - one committed by Indiana's Tyler Hansbrough against Dwyane Wade, another by Miami's Udonis Haslem against Hansbrough moments after Wade was bloodied. The last was a particularly hard play by Heat reserve center Dexter Pittman against the Pacers' Lance Stephenson in the final seconds. "I agree with his assessment. We did play soft," Indiana's Danny Granger said Wednesday. "We got smacked around. We got beat up, we got bullied, and we really didn't respond well. "I've been with Larry since I've been in Indiana for seven years," Granger added. "He's not been one to hold his tongue, and 99 percent of the time what he's saying is right. I think he just called out what everyone else saw. We played a soft game. We didn't play with the playoff intensity that we needed to win." MSNBC.com

Granger said Tuesday part of the reason he has been so aggressive is because of the lack of respect he thinks the Pacers get. "I think it's a product of the chip that I have on my shoulder, that we have on our shoulder as a team, of not being respected," he said. "Not just this series, but all year. We had the (fifth-)best record in the NBA, and I think we had maybe one televised game. (There were) three or four teams who didn't make the playoffs who had more televised games than us. It's a matter of being disrespected nationally." Indianapolis Star

The Pacers may have to go one more game without Granger. The Pacers' leading scorer left the arena in a walking boot and is day-to-day with a sprained left ankle. "I have no idea," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said when asked if he thinks he'll have Granger for Game 6. "We'll prepare a plan for him and we'll prepare for without him." Indianapolis Star

Granger missed a 3-pointer with about 3 minutes left, and landed on LeBron James‘ foot. Granger went down near the Heat bench, and play was stopped about 15 seconds later. Granger limped into the Indiana locker room for treatment and evaluation. Washington Times

Miami Heat stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have grown tired of what they think are baiting tactics from the Indiana Pacers' Danny Granger. James went so far as to call Granger's ploy "stupid." Granger has gotten called for technical fouls in each of the past three games for getting into both James' and Wade's faces after fouls. Granger said he doesn't intend to back down but several times he has appeared to be the one to instigate the confrontation. ESPN.com
