The criminal complaint gave this account: A woman, who has been dating Cunningham since last summer and living with him for eight months, called 911 at about 3:30 a.m. They had gotten in an argument and she locked a bedroom door after Cunningham left. A short time later, Cunningham returned and kicked in the door. He grabbed her by the neck, slammed her against the wall and strangled her for about 15 to 20 seconds. The female victim said she could not breathe. She said it felt like she was being strangled to death. Cunningham dropped the victim and left the residence. St. Paul Pioneer Press

Police in the west metro early Thursday arrested Minnesota Timberwolves player Dante Cunningham on suspicion of domestic assault. Cunningham, 26, was apprehended by police in Medina and booked into the Hennepin County jail shortly after 6 a.m., according to jail records. He is being held without bail pending charges. Minneapolis Star-Tribune

Police arrived at Cunningham’s residence on Medina Road about 4 a.m. and met with a woman who also lives there who had “marks of a physical domestic [altercation]” on her body,” said Police Chief Ed Belland. The woman did not require medical treatment, the chief added. Cunningham had left the $1.1 million home before police arrived but soon returned and “was subsequently arrested and taken into custody without incident,” Belland said. The chief said he expects to forward the case to the county attorney’s office for charging by Thursday afternoon. Minneapolis Star-Tribune

Cunningham and the Wolves played Wednesday night at Target Center, defeating the Memphis Grizzlies. He will not travel with the team Thursday afternoon to Miami, where Minnesota plays Friday vs. the Heat, Wolves management said in a statement. As for whether Cunningham will be in the lineup in Miami, team spokesman Brad Ruiter said, “We are not commenting one way or another in the statement about his playing status.” Minneapolis Star-Tribune

For those who missed the memo, the summer of 2015 is a large priority for quite a few teams because of Kevin Love. The T'wolves star can opt out of his deal at that time, and first-year team President Flip Saunders is well aware that missing the playoffs for a seventh consecutive season would certainly not help his campaign to keep him in town. Translation: The T'wolves should be on the personnel prowl. Among their players thought to be available are point guard J.J. Barea, forward Dante Cunningham and guard Alexey Shved. USA Today Sports

Two days after he called out teammates J.J. Barea and Dante Cunningham for not leaving the Wolves bench to join their teammates during time outs down the stretch of Wednesday’s one-point loss to Phoenix, Love said chemistry on the team was good. “We’ve been on the same page,” Love said. “Everything that happened is now internal. We’ve moved on from it. And we have a big game tonight.” Minneapolis Star-Tribune

That said, Barea said he should have joined the team during the timeouts. “I think it looks a little bad that we were at the end of the bench,” he said. “But it’s something that we’ve got to get better at. I think it won’t happen again.” Cunningham declined comment. Minneapolis Star-Tribune

Although Love did not use specific names in the interview, based on the fourth quarter scene on the bench all indications were that his frustrations were aimed at J.J. Barea and Dante Cunningham. Barea, who scored eight points in 13 minutes, clearly voiced he was unhappy when he was sent to the bench near the eight-minute mark in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Cunningham recorded three points and one rebound in a season-low 11 minutes. 1500 ESPN

Rick Adelman said after Monday's game that he expected Cunningham would miss some time with a late-game ankle injury that looked bad because of Cunningham's reaction when he landed on a Celtics players foot and caming tumbling down in great pain. "Yeah, I let out a little war cry," Cunningham said. "I did. I admit that. It was more shock than anything." Minneapolis Star-Tribune

Dante Cunningham, who leads with minutes off the bench, paced the reserves with 12 points in 21 minutes. He looked to sprain his left ankle badly in the fourth quarter, but then walked it off. “Looked like he broke his ankle,” Adelman said afterward. “Sure he is gonna be out.” His loss would cut into a shallow bench that is usually needed to produce more. The pain Monday was it wasn’t the bench. St. Paul Pioneer Press

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak is said to have called the Wolves recently about forward Dante Cunningham. But with a reasonable, $2.1 million team option for 2013-14, Cunningham won't be easy to get. 1500 ESPN

The Timberwolves honor Minnesota's troops and military veterans throughout November, a month of ceremony and festivity that makes Dante Cunningham feel like he has come home even though he's a thousand miles away from Andrews Air Force base where he grew up. A self-described "military brat" and proud of it, Cunningham's bed at home and his locker at Target Center might not indicate he has spent a lifetime around the military. But his presence in the NBA does. "My room is a mess, I don't tuck the corners and everything like that," he said. "But definitely just the drive and determination to work hard -- to do better and get better -- I got from being around the military." Minneapolis Star-Tribune
