New Orleans Pelicans second-year backup forward Darius Miller could miss up to 12 weeks after suffering a stress fracture in his left foot that required surgery, the team announced Monday. Miller, 6 feet 8, 235 pounds, had been experiencing discomfort in his foot during recent volunteer workouts before team doctors diagnosed the injury. Although he is set to begin rehabilitation work in New Orleans on Tuesday, Miller is expected to miss all of training camp that is set to begin on Oct. 1. New Orleans Times-Picayune

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that Darius Miller suffered a stress fracture in his left foot. Team doctors discovered the injury after Miller experienced discomfort recently. Dr. Richard Ferkel of Southern California Orthopedic Institute surgically repaired the stress fracture. Miller will return to New Orleans on September 10, 2013 to begin the rehabilitation process. He is expected to miss 8-12 weeks. NBA.com

The Pelicans have averaged about eight players per session for their offseason volunteer workouts at the Alario Center. The New Orleans Hornets backcourt had a distinctly different look Monday night against the Denver Nuggets, with a pair of rookies, Brian Roberts and Darius Miller in the starting linup instead of Greivis Vasquez and Eric Gordon. Gordon was scratched because of a sore left ankle, an injury Gordon said he has been fighting recently that worsened after a misstep Friday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. New Orleans Hornets rookie forward Darius Miller has been assigned to the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League, the team announced Monday morning. Miller was inactive for Saturday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats because of the return of shooting guard Eric Gordon, and his playing time this season has been minimal. Rookie Darius Miller will start in place of Rivers, who had his left index finger taped on his non-shooting hand during the shootaround. Williams wouldn't elaborate on Rivers' injury other than to say he injured it at practice. "I really don't know the specifics on it yet, but it's nothing too serious," Rivers said. "I don't ever want to sit out a game because this is what I love to do.'' Rivers, who participated in the shootaround, said he thought he was playing but the Hornets made the decision to hold him out. "Whenever they want me back, I will love to play,'' Rivers said. The New Orleans Hornets have signed second-round pick Darius Miller, the team announced Thursday. Miller, a forward out of Kentucky and the No. 46 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, signed a two-year deal, worth just under $1 million, according to a league source. The first year of the deal is fully guaranteed if Millers makes the team, which he is expected to do. New Orleans Times-Picayune

The New Orleans Hornets will conduct a mini-camp for their Las Vegas summer league team on July 11-13 at the Alario Center. The workouts will include draft picks Austin Rivers (10th overall) and Darius Miller (46th overall), along with four players from the 2011-12 Hornets end-of-season roster (Al-Farouq Aminu, Jerome Dyson, Xavier Henry, and Darryl Watkins) are scheduled to participate.
