On Saturday, following their final preseason game, the Portland Trail Blazers waived guards Diante Garrett and Darius Morris to set the roster at 15 players. The 15 players left all have guaranteed contracts and it was going to take something special for Portland to open up a roster spot for them. The Blazers won their final game of the preseason on Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers and neither Morris or Garrett got into the game while everybody else on the roster played, save for LaMarcus Aldridge. The Blazers also have camp invitees Darius Morris and Diante Garrett, both of whom are point guards and give the team more options in scrimmages. Both players have had stints on NBA rosters, and Morris played the game's final 4:46 Thursday, when the outcome was decided. "That's why they were brought in," Stotts said. "As has been noted, we don't have a prototypical third point guard right now, and so they were brought in to play that position." Portland has 15 players with guaranteed contracts, so for either Morris or Garrett to make the opening-day roster, the Blazers would either have to waive a player or execute a trade that would free up a roster spot. "They're here to try to make the team," Stotts said. Oregonian

Morris was somewhat disappointed when the Lakers chose to sign Kendall Marshall after multiple injuries at the point guard position. "I think Kendall's performances in the D-League kind of caught [Jim] Buss' eye,' " said Morris. "It's just an honor just to be considered. When you leave somewhere, kind of mutually, just to have that they would think about you is a great feeling." While he didn't get another chance with the Lakers, Morris is glad to see Marshall have success. "I was happy for Kendall. You learn that in this league, when you have the right attitude about other people's success, it helps yours," said Morris. "That's what I love about the NBA. It just keeps you humble. You can be up, and you can be down, but you learn that the great ones are that just stay level. Watching Kobe [Bryant, he] just stays level." Los Angeles Times
