What is an issue for the Nets is frontcourt depth. Mirza Teletovic is out for the season with bilateral pulmonary embolus, or blood clots in his lungs, and Kevin Garnett has seen his minutes reduced as the season’s gone on. Garnett was down to 17.4 minutes per game in January and Brooklyn could use another player in its big man rotation. “Anybody he brings in,” guard Darius Morris said of general manager Billy King, “it’s because they feel who can help the team. So I’d be happy.” King spoke to the Nets’ website before Monday’s game and indicated that the team would not be making any trades before the All-Star Break. But in the few days before the trade deadline, Blatche could certainly take up one of Brooklyn’s potentially vacant roster spots. SheridanHoops

It is “unlikely” they waive anyone else, a team source told The Brooklyn Game. The Nets have three more non-guaranteed players on their roster — guard Darius Morris, center Jerome Jordan, and rookie forward Cory Jefferson. Jefferson is currently in the D-League with the Maine Red Claws, and Morris & Jordan provide much-needed depth at the point guard and center positions, where the Nets have dealt with injuries throughout the season. On Saturday, following their final preseason game, the Portland Trail Blazers waived guards Diante Garrett and Darius Morris to set the roster at 15 players. The 15 players left all have guaranteed contracts and it was going to take something special for Portland to open up a roster spot for them. The Blazers won their final game of the preseason on Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers and neither Morris or Garrett got into the game while everybody else on the roster played, save for LaMarcus Aldridge. The Blazers also have camp invitees Darius Morris and Diante Garrett, both of whom are point guards and give the team more options in scrimmages. Both players have had stints on NBA rosters, and Morris played the game's final 4:46 Thursday, when the outcome was decided. "That's why they were brought in," Stotts said. "As has been noted, we don't have a prototypical third point guard right now, and so they were brought in to play that position." Portland has 15 players with guaranteed contracts, so for either Morris or Garrett to make the opening-day roster, the Blazers would either have to waive a player or execute a trade that would free up a roster spot. "They're here to try to make the team," Stotts said. Oregonian
