Warriors forward David Lee stood off to the side, after the speeches and promises and platitudes. Tuesday's news conference flowed with glamorous visions of the team's proposed arena in San Francisco, but Lee cut to the chase: "If you're a losing team, it doesn't matter if you have 24-karat gold seats in the new arena," he said. "The important thing is winning." That's the parallel mission for the Warriors as they try to build a home at Piers 30-32 in time for the 2017-18 season. They want to win before then, obviously, but this arena project offers a concrete timeline in some ways, giving them five years to reverse their perpetually losing ways. San Francisco Chronicle

Warriors forward David Lee will surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle in Philadelphia, according to team sources. Lee, who missed the last seven games with a strained groin and a stress reaction, went to visit specialist Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia to have his groin examined. The result is he’ll need surgery to repair the damage. Contra Costa Times

Warriors forward David Lee might be done for the season because of a groin injury. "The doctors called me and said you've got to shut this guy down," Warriors general manager Larry Riley said. The morning after scoring a game-high 30 points in a loss to Dallas, Lee had an MRI in an attempt to find the source of his pain. Friday's MRI revealed a strained groin and a stress reaction. Team doctors told Lee if he played before his groin were fully healed, he would risk further injury. "He wanted to play, but I'm not going to let him," Riley said. "But I told him he could hurt that thing even worse. I'm not going to let him play until he can't hurt it anymore." Contra Costa Times

The Golden State Warriors are likely down another starter for the rest of the season. The Warriors said an MRI exam Friday on power forward David Lee revealed a strained groin and a stress reaction. Team doctors advised that Lee not risk causing further injury and remain out for the foreseeable future. Lee scored 30 points in a 112-103 loss to Dallas on Thursday night. He averaged 20.1 points and 9.6 rebounds this season. NBA.com

What’s more, two of the starters he’d grown used to playing with are now in Milwaukee, another is on the shelf with ankle problems, and the big man he’s longed to play alongside is out until next year. Who could blame Lee for wanting to shut it down, too? Well, he doesn’t. “At this point,” Lee said after Tuesday’s shootaround, “it’s about continuing to demand respect by playing hard night in and night out.” Contra Costa Times

Instead of being fed up with having to do it again, Lee said past experience has helped him to cope. Rather than being inspired by the pursuit of playoffs, Lee is driven to protect his reputation. Rather than throw in the towel until next year, Lee said he’d rather set the tone for next year by finishing hard. This is what Lee does. “I was always known inNew Yorkbecause of situations like this where you had to finish out the year strong,” Lee said. “I’d come out and continue to play hard and do my job and be known as a pro and a guy with professionalism. That’s what I want to continue to do here and continue that reputation.” Contra Costa Times

Warriors forward David Lee is frustrated, and he's not trying to hide it. He had every belief the Warriors would make the playoffs, something he has yet to do in his career. But with the team at 6-12, Lee sees that slipping away. "I'm in panic mode," Lee said. "We can't give away any more games that we're supposed to win. It starts with a team like Sacramento. This is a very winnable game we need to get." San Jose Mercury-News

Q: What about the fact that your new owner [Joe Lacob] is obviously very aggressive and known for wanting to make big, splashy moves? How much unease does that cause among the players who are there right now? David Lee: All I can do is speak for myself on that one. And I've been through enough of that in New York where about every third day the whole entire roster gets traded [in the media], so I'm used to it. On the other hand it's something I like. I like the fact that ownership is aggressive and that they're a group that wants to have a topflight organization and wants to have a winning culture and is willing to go after the big guys. That's something that's very important for us to know after a lot of years of no playoffs and losing. So we respect that. We know, after the lockout especially, that this is a business. Any player that thought otherwise, during the lockout we all learned that this is a business and that we are pieces that are going to be traded and moved around to win games. That's just the way it is. The quicker you realize that is the better off you'll be. ESPN.com

Q: How much does all the talk about Steph and Monta and whether they can play together seep into the locker room? David Lee: I think it's something that everyone's aware of. My view on it is that we've got two very, very good players in Monta and Steph. Those are two guys that are passionate about the game, two guys that have a lot of skill and two guys that are hard workers. That's up to ownership how that's going to shake out. At this point I don't think it's fair to be saying, "Which one should we keep?" I think that's just going to shake out how it's going to. I'm happy they're both on our team. They're both great players. ESPN.com

Before Thursday, Howard averaged 16.9 points on 55.4 percent shooting with 13.7 rebounds. Even if they could hold him to 20 and 15, the Warriors probably win that game. DAVID LEE: “It’s a chance you take. We chose to do that. We chose to play him head-up on the block. It fouled Andris (Biedrins) and Ekpe (Udoh) and myself at the end there. … Dwight had a good game to his create and in the second half hit his free throws. We took a chance. Coach had the idea to do that and we stand behind our coach. It didn’t work out this time, maybe it worked out next time. But we took a chance and said we wanted Dwight to beat us and he beat us.” Contra Costa Times

For the third straight game, Golden State will be missing a starter. Warriors forward David Lee will not only miss today's game, he's not even in attendance. Lee is pretty ill. So ill, he was at a local hospital instead of warming up. They aren't sure yet whether it's food poisoning, the flu or some kind of virus. San Jose Mercury-News
