Now that the Suns’ GM job came open this week, the more likely GM candidates are names that are largely to the general fan – Milwaukee assistant GM Jeff Weltman and former Indiana GM David Morway, for examples. But Barkley is interested, but not desperate for the job. Barkley has not been contacted by the Suns he did talk Wednesday on Brad Cesmat’s “Pros 2 Preps” show (KGME-AM) and addressed the topic in his usual candid way. Arizona Republic

Most front office people bring in their own personnel. But it was pretty obvious that general manager Kevin Pritchard would be elevated in the front office. How much did you know about him before this? Donnie Walsh: "I had dinner with Kevin when I first came back. I really didn't know him when I came in. Larry had already recommended him to Herb, (former general manager) David Morway was already gone, so when I walked in here, I knew he was going to be here. I've really enjoyed working with him. He's exactly the kind of guy I want to work with. I still make some calls, but he's really good at working the phones. I think sharing ideas -- he's been a general manager before -- is great. The way I see myself doing the job now, he's a perfect fit for me. I've got confidence in him. He's somebody I really enjoy talking about basketball with him." Indianapolis Star

The Indiana Pacers have announced that David Morway has resigned as general manager. “For the past year I have carefully and thoughtfully considered my personal, family and professional goals,” Morway said in a statement released by the team. “After discussing all of these issues with our owner Herb Simon and (president) Larry (Bird), I believe this is the right time to step away. “I want to thank Mr. Simon, Larry, (former team president) Donnie Walsh and (president) Jim Morris for the opportunity they gave me and the friendship and mentorship they provided.” Indianapolis Star

Seemingly, it’s done, though that could be deceiving. Kevin Pritchard, meanwhile, is making trade calls for the Pacers. Apparently, Bird has unofficially installed him as general manager, succeeding universally mistrusted David Morway? New York Post

Larry Bird talked like he wants to remain as president during his season-ending press conference last month as long as his meeting with Simon went well. Bird wants Kevin Pritchard, the team’s director of player personnel, to be his new general manager. David Morway, who was the team’s general manager, hasn’t been around the team in more than two weeks. Walsh has attended some of the Pacers predraft workouts at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, according to sources. Indianapolis Star

Bird no longer has a relationship with soon-to-be ousted general manager David Morway, according to multiple sources. Sources say the fizzled relationship is the one of the main reasons why Bird plans to replace Morway with Kevin Pritchard as general manager once Bird agrees to a new deal with owner Herb Simon to remain as president when the two meet later this week. Indianapolis Star

The Pacers had agreed to a sign-and-trade deal that would have sent Josh McRoberts to Memphis for Mayo because the Grizzlies were trying to shed salary. Sources say it was Morway that caused the deal to “fall apart” because he pushed the Grizzlies to take swingman Brandon Rush. Morway often negotiated with teams, and then Bird would step in and make the final decision. Bird was seething over the blown deal, according to sources. He had lost any remaining trust in Morway after that. Indianapolis Star

Pritchard has become a favorite of Bird’s since his hiring as the Pacers' director of player personnel a year ago. Pritchard’s promotion will spell the end of David Morway’s successful tenure as GM, sources said. Despite joining the organization as a subordinate to Morway, Pritchard rapidly usurped power and influence since his hiring a year ago, league sources said. Pacers owner Herb Simon and Morway were wary of bringing Pritchard into the organization, sources said, but Bird trusts Pritchard’s counsel and has pushed for this change. Yahoo! Sports
