As for where he stands with the Spurs, Bertans expects he’ll be making the leap to the NBA sometime in the next two seasons. “I think they count on me as a player in the next two years.” Bertans said the Spurs were supportive of him signing with Baskonia because they’ve had a respectable relationship with the club before, when Tiago Splitter played there, while they’re also monitoring 2011 draftee Adam Hanga currently in Baskonia. Bertans also stated that his contract with Baskonia has an NBA-opt out after each season. ProjectSpurs.com

Despite the recent quotes of coach Dule Vujosevic in Serbian press who said that recently drafted Bogdan Bogdanovic will leave the team and Bertans will stay, everything depends on the right offer. Nothing is set in stone yet, but Bertans can be a fit in Istanbul. His buy out is 200.000 euros and Galatasaray, after parting ways with Pops Mensah Bonsu, is examining the available front line options on the market. Βertans is one of them. EuroHoops.net

After suffering a devastating knee injury, Davis Bertans is finally ready to hit the court for current team Partizan but the San Antonio Spurs have other plans for the forward. According to Slovenian site Silo.net, Bertans was set to return in six months but the Spurs asked Partizan to hold him out for eight months. Partizan coach Dusko Vujošević said that the San Antonio Spurs explicitly said Davis Bertans needs a slower recovery from knee injury. "Despite the fact that rehabilitation is very good, the request to delay came from the San Antonio Spurs. Instead of six months, he will be missing four to eight months more. Probably in March he will be ready and able to play," said Partizan coach Dusko Vujošević. ProjectSpurs.com

What do you say to the critics who say you are too slow to defend wings in the NBA? Do you think you’ll be able to step in and hold your own on the defensive end? Davis Bertans: About defense, of course it’s a bit of a problem for me to move my long legs fast, but i’m working on that. Everything can be fixed with hard work, so everyday i have to work even harder and i can become a good defensive player. And my height is definately a bonus on defense because i don’t have to got too close to offensive player and he still can’t shoot and open shot over my hands. Critics actually help. I want to prove that they are wrong. SLAM

While a report over the weekend said that Latvian small forward Davis Bertans would withdraw from the NBA draft without a guarantee that he’d be a first-round pick, Draft Express reports via Twitter that Bertans’ agent, Marc Fleisher, said his client has decided to stay in the draft. Fleisher would not reveal whether he knows where Bertans will be picked. Sporting News

Davis Bertans agent had a much better strategy having him workout along with two other players, his brother Dairis Bertans and Janis Strelnieks. It allowed him to be less nervous with all of the scouts eyes not solely on him, as well as giving him time to recover after each dunk or jumpshot. He had a pretty good showing in the workout although I'm sure he would tell you he shot horribly. He started a little slow but eventually found a groove. One assistant GM sitting next to me commented that he's got "stiff hips" which is actually very accurate. He's not a great athlete with slow feet and doesn't run well but he has great length and can get off the floor and his bread and butter and what will likely give him a good chance to play in the NBA someday is his outside shooting, which ran hot and cold today but there's no mistaking his tremendous form.
