Kobe Bryant spoke last week about what a "crazy year" it's been for the Lakers, who are on their third coach and still awaiting Steve Nash's return to the lineup. "Stability," says Kobe, is the "thing that's been missing." It's also that elusive stability, sources close to the situation say, that prompted the Lakers to pass on signing free-agent point guard Delonte West after strongly considering it during a 1-6 start to December. The Lakers decided it was wiser to wait for Nash, who's expected to return to the lineup by Christmas Day at the latest, rather than try to incorporate yet another new piece to the puzzle. Bringing in another point guard hasn't been ruled out, sources say, with Nash's backup Steve Blake still out after abdominal surgery. The Lakers, though, would prefer not to rush it. ESPN.com

Ramona Shelbourne: Lakers still assessing options with PG situation. Unlikely theyll do anything until 15th. Yes, Delonte is someone to consider. But it'd be foolish not to wait 2 more days to see what other options could be out there Twitter @ramonashelburne

A source told ESPNLosAngeles.com that the Lakers' options at this point are somewhat limited, but they'll likely consider free agents such as Delonte West, who was cut by the Dallas Mavericks in October, and Eddie House, as well as a trade. ESPN.com

As Tommy Heinsohn said, the young core of Al Jefferson, Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, Tony Allen and Delonte West were “like puppies: Every time you saw them, you wanted to pet them.” “We used to have a lot of laughs together, because when I was here, things weren’t going too well as far as winning,” said Jefferson. “But we always had the locker room live with me, [Rondo], Tony Allen, Kendrick Perkins and Delonte West. We all kept it live, and we were fun guys to be around. In the time we were here, when we were losing, we hardly ever got blown out. It was always close games, but we were just such a young team, we didn’t know how to finish those games. I knew if we could’ve stayed together, things could’ve got better for us.” WEEI.com

Despite the availability of Delonte West and Derek Fisher, the Lakers don't plan to add a point guard while awaiting Nash's return from a small fracture in his left leg that will sideline him anywhere from one to four weeks. Los Angeles Times

Former Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West wants a new job. And he's posted a resume of sorts on Twitter in hopes of getting one. West, who was suspended indefinitely and then waived by Dallas earlier this week, used Twitter on Wednesday to list his experience and abilities, noting that he would play for a non-guaranteed, league-minimum deal because, as he tweeted, "by the time I get there u see what I'm about&what I bring everyday." The Mavericks have informed the NBA office of their 15-man roster and Delonte West is not on it. West will be officially waived, reducing the Mavericks’ roster to the 15-man maximum. West was suspended twice in the last two weeks and the Mavericks were trying to figure out the best way to finalize their separation from the veteran guard, who could not steer clear of controversy during his time with the Mavericks. The Mavericks have been shopping 2010 first-round pick Dominique Jones without success, according to league sources, which means that the release of guard Delonte West remains the most likely roster moving coming from the team later Monday. ESPN.com

West says he wants to permanently squash the rumor not just for his sake, but mostly for James and James’ mother. West says both were supportive during his three seasons in Cleveland. In fact, West says Gloria James reminded him of his single mother, Delphina Addison, who raised Delonte and his siblings to be “happy-poor, just enjoy life and the blessings that God has given us. “If we want to continue to grow as a human race, what are we teaching our kids if we try to make humor and fun out of stuff like that?” West says of the rumor. “Number one, something like that never happened. I don’t know where they got that from. “For a strong black woman like that, for people to try to tear her down, that’s terrible. That’s terrible in so many ways.” Dallas Morning News

All indications are that Delonte West will be a former Maverick by Monday evening. The Mavericks have to keep Eddy Curry, based on the simple fact that they need a big, healthy body and Curry appears ready to put his best foot forward as a stopgap center. Dallas Morning News

The Mavericks stints of Melvin Ely and Chris Douglas-Roberts didn't even last as long as Delonte West's first suspension this month. The Mavs waived Ely and Douglas-Roberts on Sunday morning, before they even practiced with the team. It's a good bet that they'll end up on the roster of the Texas Legends, the Mavs' D-League affiliate. The Legends now own the rights of both players. ESPN.com
