The USA Basketball chairman said Cousins had "some growing up to do" when he was a member of a select team practicing against USA Basketball's Olympic team last summer. Cousins took offense to those comments and asked Colangelo about them. After much debate among USA Basketball executives, a source said, Cousins, 22, was extended an invite to take part in the minicamp with a chance to land a spot on Team USA. "You bury the past and go forward," Colangelo said. "He's invited and he's definitely on the list. New year, new summer, new opportunity." Yahoo! Sports

That includes center DeMarcus Cousins, who has been involved in trade rumors for three seasons largely because of run-ins with coaches, teammates and staff, and questions about his attitude. "We all know on any given night he's the most talented big man in the NBA," Malone said. " … You just don't get rid of those guys. He could be and should be the cornerstone of this franchise for years to come. That's my hope." Sacramento Bee

Now that the Kings have a coach, they can begin to figure out whom to scuttle as they build their roster. Speculation begins with big man DeMarcus Cousins, the Kings’ talented but sometimes destructive franchise cornerstone. A source told Sporting News that the team’s new ownership group has not made a decision on Cousins just yet, and that Malone’s input will be key in the decision. The source said speculation on Cousins’ future likely comes from teams hoping to trade for Cousins on the cheap. Sporting News

Polynice on how he’d try to help DeMarcus Cousins: One of the things that I can offer him is I know where he’s going and I can relate to him on so many levels. And that’s the biggest asset that I have because a lot of times as athletes we think we’re superhuman, we’re above-the- law, we’re this and that. And at the end of the day, we’re not. It doesn’t matter if you have an argument with a coach or have a problem with a coach, you can’t undermine a coach. Because I know I’ve done that – I didn’t undermine, but I’ve argued with coaches and it served no good purpose at the end of the day. Even if I was right, I’m still wrong. And so those are things that I would share with him. Even though you might think you’re right, and you might be right, at the end of the day, you’ll still be wrong. It’s stuff like that, young fella’s gotta understand. Cowbell Kingdom
