He literally wants his time to get here sooner rather than later. "I want to play more than what I played last year," Favors admitted. "If it's starting, cool. If it's coming off the bench, cool. I don't mind. I just want to play more. I don't want to sit on the bench no more." Deseret News |

![]() Anthony Davis is reportedly the latest player to suffer an injury that will keep him out of the London Olympics, seemingly opening the possibility that the Jazz's Derrick Favors could be selected to replace him on the 12-man roster for Team USA as it seeks to defend its gold medal. However, a close with direct knowledge of the situation told The Salt Lake Tribune that it's “highly unlikely.” Sulia ![]() Brian T. Smith: Source says, as of right now, it's very unlikely Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins are suddenly added to Team USA to replace Anthony Davis. Twitter |

Fear not, Jazz fans. GM Kevin O'Connor is exploring ways to move up in the draft. They have the Warriors' pick in 2013 (top-six-protected) and veterans like Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson and Devin Harris, and they might even be willing to add another young player (as long as you don't ask for Derrick Favors or Enes Kanter). The question is, how high can they go? Their presumed target is Weber State's Lillard. They need a point guard and know him better than any team in the league. But if they could get higher and get an even better prospect, they would. They like Beal and Kidd-Gilchrist a lot, too. ESPN.com |

NBA Scout on Derrick Favors "I think he is growing, he has a ways to go. He has a presence on the floor, he is a big body at the rim on both ends, he can challenge shots, he doesn't block every shot but people know that he is there. He is physical. I think he is still growing into his body. He is young he is going to put on more muscle. If he can keep the quickness with the weight he puts on he will get better and better." Favors grew up on the cruel streets of Atlanta. From an early age, basketball came naturally to him, and he looked like he would have some kind of future in the game. That potential, along with the firm guidance of his mother, Deandra, put him on a safer path toward success and avoiding the traps of the difficult environs around him. "It was a tough neighborhood," he says. "My mom didn’t want me to get in trouble. She had a belt. She whipped me. She set me straight. She did a good job of that." As time went by, he says he developed something within that has served him well: "common sense." Salt Lake Tribune |

After struggling amid trade rumors last season — Favors’ name was prominently featured in the Nets’ pursuit of Carmelo Anthony — the 20 -year-old forward has blossomed into a more mature and more effective player. He’s averaging 8.8 points and 5.9 rebounds in only 20 minutes per contest. “That [trade] stuff kind of messes with you mentally,” said Favors, who had four points. “So just being in a place where I can settle down helped me out a lot … knowing I’m at a place that wants me and just having fun with my teammates.” Bergen Record |

![]() Derrick Favors is learning the hard way that some actions in the NBA have costly consequences. The second-year Utah Jazz player was ejected late in the third quarter of Thursday's 94-91 loss against Dallas after he threw a basketball. On Saturday, the NBA threw a $25,000 fine right back at Favors for the incident. In a statement, Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president of basketball operations, announced the hefty penalty, which accompanies "throwing a ball into the spectator stands." Deseret News Fines — which the NBA donates to charities — are starting to stack up for the Jazz. Utah's sum total so far: $60,000. That list includes Favors' $25,000 for tossing the ball; $25,000 for Josh Howard (flagrant penalty-2 vs. Spurs); two technicals for Earl Watson ($4,000) and a $2,000 tech apiece for Paul Millsap, Raja Bell and Corbin. Corbin, who got his T on Saturday, doesn't want his players to get fined, but he likes his guys' feistiness. "You want to encourage guys to play hard, and I think we play hard," Corbin said. "We're not a dirty ball club." Deseret News |

![]() Marc J. Spears: NBA fines Jazz's Derrick Favors $25,000 for throwing ball into stands with :24.8 seconds left in 3rd quarter of a loss to Dallas on Jan. 19 Twitter Shortly thereafter, with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter and the Jazz leading, 71-70, Favors was called for an offensive foul for setting a moving screen on Mavericks forward Lamar Odom. He receive the pass as he rolled, looked at the referee to see the call and then disgustedly threw the ball with an underhand toss towards the end of the Mavericks bench and into the stands. He was immediately issued two technical fouls, per the league's guidelines on that type of action, and was ejected. The Mavericks went on to win, 94-91. Jazz forwards Josh Howard (strained left quad) and Derrick Favors (sprained right ankle) didn’t play Tuesday. Favors said Sunday after a road win against Denver he planned to take the court against the Clippers. He acknowledged during shootaround Tuesday morning his ankle had swelled a little, though, and was troubling him when he jumped and cut. Favors re-evaluated his ankle before tipoff, determining it was better to sit out rather than risk further injury. “I want to be able to play, but at the same time I’ve got to be careful about it,” said Favors, who plans to be active Thursday against Dallas. “I’ve still got a lot of games to play and I don’t want to do something worse to it.” Salt Lake Tribune |

The Jazz received playmaker Devin Harris (12.8 ppg, 39.5 percent shooting, 5.1 apg in Utah), promising power forward Derrick Favors (8.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg), rebounding giant Enes Kanter (4.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg), a future pick (or two) from Golden State and $3 million. So? The wheeling and dealing winner? Neither Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor nor Tyrone Corbin wanted to divulge whether they believe they came out on top. "We like the guys we have," Corbin said. "We like where we are now." It's too early to (not) tell, O'Connor added. "What you hope with a trade is that you establish fair value. That's to be determined," the Jazz GM said. "You can't really judge anything on 10 games a season." Deseret News |

![]() The way Derrick Favors remembers it, Avery Johnson called him into the coach’s office during a road trip and gave him false assurance. “(Johnson) was like, ‘We like you here in Jersey, we’re going to keep you, don’t worry about it,’” Favors said. New York Daily News The rookie bought into it. Or at least he tried to. The rumors and questions from reporters were impossible to drown out, but he was the youngest player in the NBA at the time, not knowing what to expect. So he believed Johnson. In February – after incessant rumors and after Nets officials meeting with Carmelo Anthony while dangling Favors – the 2010 third overall pick was dealt with Devin Harris and two first-round picks for Deron Williams. “They tell everybody that (they’re part of the future). I’m not calling (Johnson) a liar or anything, but when you’re on a team, you buy into it,” Favors said. “You’re like, ‘I’m going to be here, I’m going to be here.’ Then the next thing you know you get traded. It’s a business. There’s nothing you can do but accept it.” New York Daily News |
