In an attempt to acquire that final rebound, Davis purposefully shot and missed at his own basket. (By rule, a player cannot be credited with a rebound for a miss on his own goal.) Then things got ugly. Old-school enforcement ensued when Utah's DeShawn Stevenson fouled Davis. Hard. Utah coach Jerry Sloan turned irate, telling reporters afterward, "I was glad that Shawn tried to knock him down. They can put me in jail or whatever they want for saying that, but that's the way it is." The sequence ignited a fierce debate about individual achievement and results in sports. The Cavaliers fined Davis $35,000. Figures around the league denounced him and his selfish style of play. Davis has the advantage of a decade's worth of perspective now. He says he's surprised the stunt has stuck with him, but he also concedes it was all his own doing. Grantland |

A couple of former Mavericks came through town with the Hawks on Monday, and both said it would be fine with them if they ended up back in Dallas again. DeShawn Stevenson has been steadfast since he helped win the 2011 championship that the Mavericks were the organization for whom he’s best suited. “I’d love to play my last two, three seasons here,” said Stevenson, who will turn 32 on April 3. “This was the best franchise I ever played for, here and Washington. They handle things and treat people great. They do everything the right way.” Dallas Morning News Devin Harris, meanwhile, was the point guard for the 2006 team that went to the Finals and lost to Miami. “I love my situation [in Atlanta], but this summer, everything’s in play,” he said, referring to his impending free agency. “Sure, it would be great to come back here. I loved it in Dallas.” Dallas Morning News |

![]() DeShawn Stevenson's defensive skills are wearing thin ... because the Atlanta Hawks star has dodged a $190,000 bill from his ex-agent for almost a year, but now a judge has ordered him to pay the piper. According to legal docs, Mark Bartelstein claims he repped DeShawn since 2006 and brokered some massive deals for the NBA star -- specifically for the Washington Wizards in 2007 ($15 million), the Dallas Mavericks, AND the New Jersey Nets in 2011 ($2.5 million) TMZ.com But Mark says DeShawn STILL hasn't shown him the money, so he recently filed legal docs earlier this month in Georgia (where DeShawn lives and works) to have the judgment enforced there and start the process of collecting. As part of the Dallas Mavericks’ team that captured the 2011 NBA title, DeShawn Stevenson said the only thing that hurt him was that all of the players weren’t brought back so they could defend the title. “I think we could have been in the Finals again with Miami,’’ said Stevenson, who now plays for the Atlanta Hawks. “But you know it’s a business. “And with that lockout hurting a lot of people, they had to break it up.’’ Fort Worth Star-Telegram Stevenson said anyone who comes to his house can pull out their debit or credit card and use the ATM machine. Fort Worth Star-Telegram A lot of folks criticized Stevenson for having the gall to have an ATM machine in his kitchen. “I’ve had it for about two years,’’ he said. “It’s just that one picture people saw it in the background. “No one said nothing about my outfit.’’ Fort Worth Star-Telegram |

![]() Here is a brief interview I did with veteran guard DeShawn Stevenson who came over from the Nets in the Joe Johnson trade. He was part of the Mavericks’ NBA championship team in 2011. . What were your thoughts about being traded to the Hawks? A. I thought it was a good situation. I play better on playoff teams. I think this is a great playoff-caliber team. We’ve got great pieces. Me coming here, I was very excited. I think we have a lot of talent on this team and can do something good. Atlanta Journal-Constitution Q. When the trade happened, did you immediately start breaking down the roster to see where you would fit in? A. Not really because I’m a veteran. It’s 82 games. You can be hot, you cannot be hot and at the end of the season be hot again. It’s all about being physically and mentally ready. I know this team. I’ve been in the league for 13 years. It’s always been a talented team and they need guy to go out there and be a defensive presence. Atlanta Journal-Constitution |

![]() The Brooklyn Nets are “very close” to acquiring six-time All-Star guard Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for guards Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow and DeShawn Stevenson and centers Jordan Williams and Johan Petro, as well as a protected first-round pick that came from Houston, according to a league source. The deal, the source said, would be completed whether or not Brooklyn is able to convince free agent guard Deron Williams to re-sign with the team. Williams is entertaining an offer from the Dallas Mavericks as well. NBA.com The Brooklyn Nets are finalizing a trade to acquire Atlanta Hawks guard Joe Johnson, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The trade will send guards Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar and DeShawn Stevenson and forwards Jordan Williams and Johan Petro to the Hawks, along with a 2013 first-round pick the Nets acquired from the Houston Rockets. Stevenson is a free agent, so he will go to the Hawks in a sign-and-trade deal. Johnson, 31, has four years and nearly $90 million dollars left on his contract. Shedding his contract would give Atlanta immense cap relief and flexibility moving forward. Yahoo! Sports |
