For reasons related to his religion — he’s a Jehovah’s Witness — Dedmon said he never played basketball as a youth. His first involvement with organized basketball wasn’t until he was 18 years old. Dedmon, now 24, played a handful of games at the high school level, before getting eased into the sport (and into 23 games) by the coaches at Antelope Valley (Calif.) Junior College. From there, he played 51 games over two seasons at Southern Cal, then entered the NBA Draft with only “two classes (left) to get my degree.” The Mercury

The Philadelphia 76ers today announced that they have signed center Dewayne Dedmon to a 10-day contract. Dedmon is the 12th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2013-14 NBA Development League season. He will wear #30 for the Sixers. NBA.com

Sources told ESPN.com that the Sixers committed Monday to call up Dedmon from the Santa Cruz Warriors, with whom he's been playing since being waived by the Golden State Warriors in December.
