"Lance Stephenson?" James asked incredulously. "You want a quote about Lance Stephenson? I'm not even going to give him the time." Old-school enforcement ensued. Veteran Juwan Howard aggressively approached Stephenson before the series' next game. Dexter Pittman, a reserve big man who played for Miami last season, clotheslined Stephenson during the waning moments of the fifth game. "I think you've got to stop and wonder at that point, Is it me or is it everybody else?" Burke says. Stephenson is right. Indiana did win the third game and assumed a 2-1 series lead. But then James turned in a 40-point, 18-rebound, nine-assist masterpiece in the next game. Miami won the final three games on its way to a championship, and Stephenson learned something about tugging the tiger's tail. "It gave LeBron a little trigger," Stephenson says. "It made him go harder the next game. He responded well after I did that. Coach got on me a little bit and I just calmed down." Grantland |

And the pick-up games are not for the faint of heart. “Every day, it’s going to be bloodshed,” Jones likes to say. Most recently, Chris Andersen gave Dexter Pittman a bloody nose. It happened during pregame court time before Wednesday’s 105-85 victory against the Nets. “I was coming across the baseline and he didn’t see me, and he popped me with the back of his hand,” Pittman said. “Me and him are physical guys, so I kind of got him back a little, too, later on in the series; but he didn’t bleed.” Miami Herald |

There is no timetable on his return to Miami, but Spoelstra said they will take it slow because there is no place in the rotation for Pittman now. "We like what's going on," Spoelstra said. "We're not necessarily going to try to rush him back. At some point, we'd like his progress for ourselves. He's making good steps. This is the best thing for him. It takes some discipline on my part. I'd like to have him around … but the best thing for him right now is game minutes and he can't necessarily get that with this group right now." South Florida Sun-Sentinel |

![]() Well, I guess we now know that Terrel Harris is going to make the team. Harris and Dexter Pittman were introduced as endorsers of Peak on Saturday in Shanghai during a promotional press conference that included Shane Battier. Peak is a local sponsor of the Heat. Nothing is certain, but it seems unlikely for Heat coach Erik Spoelstra to cut Harris at this point. Harris does not have a guaranteed contract for this season. Miami Herald |

For all the talk of Dexter Pittman being in jeopardy, one Heat player told me Pittman looks as fit as he has been. The teammate said if Pittman doesn't stick, it won't be because of lack of effort with his conditioning. Sulia A Heat official said the team was disappointed in Dexter Pittman’s summer league work and “this is a crucial training camp for him. But the slate is clear.” Pittman has a guaranteed contract ($854,389) and seems likely to stick but has been assured nothing. Miami Herald |

![]() The Heat has retained one backup center and lost another. Ronny Turiaf on Saturday opted out of a contract that would have paid him the veteran’s minimum $1.2 million next season. But Miami guaranteed Dexter Pittman’s contract (worth $854,369) by Friday’s deadline. Miami Herald Of Pittman, Riley said, "We expect improvement. Big guys, when you draft them late or in the second round, it’s a two- or three-year project. He’s going into his third year. We are going to give him a great shot and we expect this year he might be able to really contribute to us." Miami Herald |
