“I’m hoping everything works out and I’m back here,” Augustin told RealGM. “I’m excited. No matter what happened recently, we still have a lot to build on. People didn’t expect us to be where we were, so going into next season is exciting. It was big coming here and finding a home on a team full of great players. It’s like a family, and just having a chance to play and get an opportunity was big for me.” RealGM

“I would love to be back here,” Augustin reiterated Monday. “This organization, this team is great, and I think it’s great for me. (Thibodeau) has given me the opportunity to play and get better. It’s been great for me. When the time comes, I’ll let my agent handle it and just kind of relax.” CBS Chicago

Thibodeau’s ability to get maximum talent out of players also prices them out of the Bulls’ reach when they become free agents (see Nate Robinson and Marco Belinelli last offseason). That might be the case for Augustin once he hits the open market. ‘‘I definitely would like to be here [for the] long term,’’ Augustin said. ‘‘I would love to be a starter again, but I want to be on a winning team, I want to be in a winning organization. Chicago is definitely those two things. When the summertime comes, that’s when I’m going to have to weigh everything.’’ Chicago Sun-Times

That doesn’t account for all the times Augustin simply beat Irving off the dribble, but he’s not alone. Just within the last three weeks, here are the point guards that have really hurt the Cavs: Denver’s Ty Lawson had 19 points and 11 assists (averages 18 ppg, 8.9 apg), Portland’s Damian Lillard had 28 points and 5 assists (averages 21.2 ppg, 5.8 apg), the Lakers’ Kendall Marshall had 10 points and 16 assists (averages 10.1 ppg, 9.1 apg), Sacramento’s Isaiah Thomas had 26 points and 6 assists (averages 19.5 ppg, 6.3 apg), Utah rookie Trey Burke had 17 points and 6 assists (averages 13.5 ppg, 5.6 apg) and Philadelphia’s Michael Carter-Williams had 33 points and 5 assists (17.5 ppg, 6.7 apg). “This is good for him but it’s good for us. We both need each other,” Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau said. “When you look at his entire career, his first two years in the league were terrific. Even last year, I thought he had some very good moments in the playoffs. He’s been a little up-and-down. Sometimes that’s not uncommon for a young player. But you can see that he has a lot of confidence. I like his skill set, that he can run a pick-and-roll, he can shoot, he can make plays. And I like the way he’s competing defensively. Each game, you can see he’s making a conscious effort to do the right things. NBA.com

The Chicago Bulls will sign point guard D.J. Augustin after he cleared waivers on Wednesday, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Augustin needs to pass a physical with the Bulls on Thursday. He was waived by the Toronto Raptors on Monday. Yahoo! Sports

The Bulls have expressed interest in signing D.J. Augustin if the point guard clears waivers Wednesday, a league source confirmed. Yahoo Sports first reported the Bulls' interest. Augustin would be signed for a prorated portion of the veteran's minimum. The Bulls are carrying 13 players and could add one without making a move. However, it's unlikely they will keep four point guards in Kirk Hinrich, Marquis Teague, James and the possible addition of Augustin. Chicago Tribune
