After a playing through a pair of 10-day contracts, D.J. White will be a member of the Boston Celtics for the rest of the season, CSNNE.com has learned. The 6-9 forward gives the Celtics another big man as they prepare for the playoffs. They can use the extra body -- not only has Kevin Garnett has missed the last two games (left adductor strain, flu), head coach Doc Rivers has wanted to be able to rest his veterans during practice. D.J. White is still waiting for his release from Shanghai of the Chinese Basketball Association, and as a result the forward will spend another night in street clothes in the Celtics locker room - this time as his future teammates play Utah. “They’re shut down on weekends – there’s just a lot of paperwork to do,” Danny Ainge said of China. It just takes a few days. I don’t know when he’ll be done with it – tomorrow is my guess. You strategically sign 10-day contracts. If he can’t play tonight, we’ll sign him on Wednesday or Thursday.” Boston Herald

Paperwork still had to be finalized yesterday on White, with an outside chance he could join the Celtics starting today on a 10-day contract. White, who had split five years in the NBA between Oklahoma City and Charlotte, most recently played for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association. D.J. White, a young NBA journeyman who has played for Charlotte and Oklahoma City, and whose season for Shanghai of the Chinese League just ended, is set to sign with the Celtics once his paperwork clears. "We're hoping," Rivers said of the forward, who may join the team as soon as Sunday in Portland or Monday in Utah. Boston Herald

Rivers hasn't given much thought, yet, to how White would fit in. "I just (go into the locker room) and say, He's here when it gets done," said Rivers. "We pretty much think it's a done deal, but it's never done until it's done. I didn't know a lot about him. He was in Oklahoma City, Charlotte. We went over three or four guys, and this is one of those things where you listen to Danny (Ainge) and Austin (Ainge). They give you their opinion. I told them what I need, but I also said whatever they thought was the best player. Two weeks ago when (Jared Sullinger) went down, I said we're just looking for whatever they think is the best player. Boston Herald
