The newest member of the Springfield Armor spent three years in the NBA as a Dallas Maverick, and has an NBA championship ring to prove it. But those days are over for now, his ties with the Mavericks severed when he was waived by the team earlier this month. "I was happy," Jones said Saturday before the Armor played the Maine Red Claws at the MassMutual Center. "People don't know the story. I requested that. But it doesn't matter, it's in my past and I'm happy to be here, happy to play in the end." Booth Newspapers

Free agent guard Dominique Jones has signed with the Springfield Armor of the NBA D-League, his agent told RealGM. While Jones received interest from two NBA teams since being waived by the Dallas Mavericks on March 9, the 24-year-old believes playing in the D-League will allow him to log significant minutes and continue to develop. Jones is still open to signing with an NBA team before the end of the season, preferably under a contract that is partially guaranteed for next season. RealGM

The Mavericks are in the market for another player after waiving Dominique Jones on Saturday because of a buildup of indiscretions off the court combined with ineffective play. The former first-round pick (25th overall in 2010) had slipped out of the playing rotation. Since Jan. 1, he had played in just five games, totaling only 29 minutes, 39 seconds of playing time. The Mavericks have waived Dominique Jones. The third-year guard has not played much in the last two months and by jettisoning him, they have opened up a roster spot. No word yet on who might be coming in, if anybody. But it seems obvious that they want to have the flexibility to bring in another player Dallas Morning News

Somebody needed to say it, so Dominique Jones – a player who has been on a championship team, but also had trouble playing consistently enough to earn playing time – said it. “We just got to tough it out,” said Jones, the backup point guard who got a quick hook early in the second quarter when things were going south for the Mavericks. “We can’t look for people to blame. Everybody in the organization just needs to look in the mirror. “People say we’re so close. I don’t think we’re close to being a good team. I think we got a lot of work to do. Everybody’s got to be on the same page and have the same goals. We can’t worry about there being nine free agents or why is this guy playing or why ain’t this guy playing. Everybody’s just got to be on the same page.” Dallas Morning News

The Mavericks didn’t pick up Dominique Jones’ fourth-year on his rookie scale contract, which means he’ll be an unrestricted free agent after this season. But that doesn’t mean he couldn’t return to the Mavericks. The Mavericks might elect to re-sign him after the season. “We are in position to keep all our young guys, and veterans too, for that matter, regardless of contract status,’’ president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said. “Our flexibility affords us that luxury.’’ Dallas Morning News

The Mavericks have elected not to exercise their fourth-year option on Dominique Jones, meaning the backup guard will become an unrestricted free agent next summer. NBA teams have until Wednesday night to pick up the fourth-year option on players who still are on their rookie contracts, such as Jones. With the new collective-bargaining agreement creating new financial realities, president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said the Mavericks won’t extend Jones. Dallas Morning News
