Finally, Eurocup contender Spartak S. Petersburg is still trying to find a replacement for Pat Beverley. Jaka Lakovic still is a target, but there are buy out problems with him and Galatasaray and that opened the window for Donald Sloan (photo) who was cut by Cleveland on the 27 of December. The 24 years old guard seems to be a viable option for the team. EuroHoops.net |

![]() Cavs coach Byron Scott said there is a leader in the backup point guard spot. Of course, he wouldn't say who it was, but it sounds like it's Donald Sloan. It doesn't appear as if both Sloan and Jeremy Pargo can make the final roster. Sulia |

![]() There is a leader in the competition for the backup point guard position with the Cavaliers, but coach Byron Scott won’t divulge who it is and he certainly isn’t ready to name a winner in the race between Donald Sloan and Jeremy Pargo. With about a week left in training camp, one of the looming decisions is whether to carry two or three point guards. The Cavs must release two more players before the start of the season, but those cuts aren’t expected to come until after Tuesday’s preseason finale. Akron Beacon Journal |

The money between a 10-day deal and a guaranteed deal for the rest of the season was minimal, so General Manager Chris Grant calculated it was worth it to secure Sloan just in case other teams were interested in giving him a 10-day deal. Sloan said the Houston Rockets were showing interest, but he was glad to have the Cavs’ offer. The Rockets signed point guard Courtney Fortson the day after the Cavs signed Sloan. “I’m glad to be here,” Sloan said. “Mr. Grant tells me all the time, ‘There’s a reason we didn’t just give you a 10-day. There’s a reason we signed you for the rest of the year and non-guaranteed next year.’?” Akron Beacon Journal Although the contract isn’t guaranteed and he could be waived at any time, the 24-year-old Sloan said this is the earliest he has ever secured a contract for the following season. Now he won’t have to spend his summer nervously waiting for the phone to ring. Instead, he’ll go home for about a week after the season ends, then he’s coming right back to Cleveland to participate in an offseason program. He’ll attend summer league in July with Irving, Tristan Thompson and the rookies drafted in June. Sloan eagerly agreed to return to Cleveland quickly and was thrilled the Cavs want him back so soon after the season ends. “That’s a good thing,” Sloan said, joking that it’s worse when teams don’t care where a player is or what he’s doing. “That’s when you have to worry.” Akron Beacon Journal |

Rookie Donald Sloan ended up being the odd man out with Kirk Hinrich’s return from shoulder surgery. The Hawks waived Sloan today, well in advance of the Feb. 10 deadline for all contracts to be come guaranteed. The Hawks now have 14 players on the roster and, by my accounting, releasing Sloan gets them comfortably below the luxury-tax line so they won’t need to waive anyone else for that reason. Signing a veteran free agent this season without releasing a player by Feb. 10 would push Atlanta’s payroll back above the tax line. Atlanta Journal-Constitution |
