HoopsHype Dwight Buycks rumors
The Toronto Raptors announced Wednesday they have reassigned guard Dwight Buycks to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League. Buycks will continue to be included on the Raptors’ roster and will remain on the team’s inactive list. Buycks is expected to be in uniform tonight when Bakersfield faces the Texas Legends in Frisco, Texas (8 p.m. ET). Raptors.com
Dwight Buycks is back with the Toronto Raptors, but for how long remains a question. Buycks, signed this past summer off a solid summer league stint in Orlando to add some depth at the point guard position, spent five games with the Bakersfield Jam of the D-League averaging 23 minutes a game, 12.4 points and four assists a night before his recall yesterday. “He had some good stints down there and that was kind of what we wanted him to go for, about five games and bring him back,” Raptors head coach Dwane Casey said. “He may go back down, but I believe in the D-League. I think it’s great for young players, it’s great for experience especially with us not having a lot of hard practice days with so many games this month.” Toronto Sun

The Portland Trail Blazers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat had pursued Buycks as a potential third-string point guard, but he ultimately couldn’t pass up the opportunity to back up Kyle Lowry on the Raptors. For the Raptors, Buycks’ defense and playmaking served as enticing factors to give him a chance. RealGM
