The Warriors signed the 7-foot, 250-pound center to a partially guaranteed contract Saturday, and he played six minutes later that day against Charlotte. He had two points, a rebound and three fouls. "It's not the first time I've been thrown in there," Barron said. The 30-year-old played for Phoenix, Milwaukee and Portland last season - all in a matter of 34 days. He spent his first three seasons in Miami and thought he might catch on with New York after a productive seven-game stint there. Barron averaged 11.7 points and 11 rebounds a game for the Knicks, but they didn't offer him a free-agent deal after the 2009-10 season. "It's not discouraging," he said. "It's just a matter of continuing to work and continuing to fight." San Francisco Chronicle

The Warriors made the signing of center Earl Barron official Saturday. Barron, brought in to fill injured center Kwame Brown's spot in the rotation, took part in the team's shootaround and will be in uniform tonight. Barron -- who stands 7-feet and weighs 250 pounds -- is in his fifth year out of Memphis. "We're going to ask him to battle defensively and continue to hold the same principles that we have on that end," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "It's very important. We need that depth to continue to have our identity, to give us a chance to be a force in the interior defensively." Contra Costa Times

The Trail Blazers have signed center Earl Barron. Barron, a 7-foot, 250-pound center who went to school at Memphis, has played in 108 NBA games since 2005, most recently appearing in 12 games with Phoenix this season when he averaged 3.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in 15.3 minutes a game. Barron started six games for the Suns. He also appeared in seven games this season for Milwaukee. Oregonian

Camby’s absence forced the Blazers to go with a small starting unit, with LaMarcus Aldridge playing center and Gerald Wallace at power forward. The Blazers’ only other true inside player is rookie Chris Johnson. The team apparently took a step to address that inside shortage, holding a workout involving three post players with NBA experience. They include Robert Swift, who played for Blazers coach Nate McMillan with the Seattle SuperSonics; Earl Barron, who played three seasons for Miami and has also had stints with New York, Phoenix and Milwaukee; and Dwayne Jones, who played for Cleveland, Boston, Charlotte and Phoenix. When the Milwaukee Bucks decided not to extend Earl Barron's second 10-day contract, the Portland Trail Blazers were one of the first teams to reach out to the center. The Blazers were looking to bolster their frontcourt for a playoff push and felt that the seven-footer was the perfect man for the job. With Marcus Camby injuring his neck last week, Portland's frontcourt is as thin as ever so the Blazers have decided to bring in Barron for a workout, according to league sources. The free agent arrived in Portland last night and is expected to be evaluated today. In November, Barron went through a similar workout with the Blazers, but the team ultimately decided to sign Sean Marks. If Portland decides to sign Barron, he will be eligible to play in the postseason because he was on playing successive 10-day contracts in Milwaukee. He also had a 12-game stint with the Phoenix Suns. HoopsWorld
