Shortly after losing to the Detroit Pistons, 96-89, on Saturday at Verizon Center – their seventh straight defeat to drop to a franchise-worst 3-22 – the Wizards released Barron and Livingston to open up two roster spots that the team plans to fill with backcourt help, according to league sources. Emeka Okafor and Earl Barron shared similar suspicions of ungentlemanly conduct. “It’s called the World Wide Web,” said Barron, when I asked how Wall was able to cheat. “Courtesy of Google,” Okafor chimed in from the next locker over. “But he’s from Kentucky, so I’m not saying nothing.” It was a subtle shot at Wall’s former coach, John Calipari, and his less-than-sparkling reputation. The Wizards decided to keep newcomers Jannero Pargo and Earl Barron over Shelvin Mack and Brian Cook for their final two roster spots and Wittman explained how circumstances surrounding Wall and Nene contributed to those choices. “They earned the spots, for their play through the month,” Wittman said of Barron and Pargo. “It was tough, now. But this is the group that I believe in, and we’re moving forward with. It wasn’t easy. Obviously, injuries change a little bit, our thinking, as we moved forward. That’s the thing about this business. You never know. As I talked most of this preseason, guys had opportunities and took advantage of them. And they are here. “You never know what’s going to happen moving forward with both those guys – Cook and Shelvin – that were with me before, and it’s hard,” he continued. “No question, that was not a fun day.” Washington Post

Meralco still felt the need for a change, thinking that it needs a legit banger inside the paint. Three games into their conference, the Meralco management decided to let go of Famous and tap National Basketball Association veteran center and former Barako Bull import Earl Barron to take his place and man the middle for the Bolts. The 30-year-old former University of Memphis standout played briefly for several NBA teams from 2005 until early this year. Manila Standard-Today

The Warriors signed the 7-foot, 250-pound center to a partially guaranteed contract Saturday, and he played six minutes later that day against Charlotte. He had two points, a rebound and three fouls. "It's not the first time I've been thrown in there," Barron said. The 30-year-old played for Phoenix, Milwaukee and Portland last season - all in a matter of 34 days. He spent his first three seasons in Miami and thought he might catch on with New York after a productive seven-game stint there. Barron averaged 11.7 points and 11 rebounds a game for the Knicks, but they didn't offer him a free-agent deal after the 2009-10 season. "It's not discouraging," he said. "It's just a matter of continuing to work and continuing to fight." San Francisco Chronicle

The Warriors made the signing of center Earl Barron official Saturday. Barron, brought in to fill injured center Kwame Brown's spot in the rotation, took part in the team's shootaround and will be in uniform tonight. Barron -- who stands 7-feet and weighs 250 pounds -- is in his fifth year out of Memphis. "We're going to ask him to battle defensively and continue to hold the same principles that we have on that end," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "It's very important. We need that depth to continue to have our identity, to give us a chance to be a force in the interior defensively." Contra Costa Times
