HoopsHype Earl Clark + Trade rumors

December 23, 2010 Updates

Earl Clark and Mickael Pietrus swapped teams after the Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns completed a six-player trade over the weekend, but they may end up renting one another's houses. It's common in the NBA for players who are traded in the middle of the season to rent a house and sometimes, the two players involved can work out a temporary swap that gives each a place to stay. Clark and Pietrus are trying to work out a similar arrangement. For now, both are staying in a hotel because the NBA allows teams to provide players with a room for forty-five days after a trade. The Suns send Turkoglu back to Orlando, where he thrived, along with Richardson and Earl Clark for Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat and Mickael Pietrus. Orlando also sends a 2011 first-round pick and cash to Phoenix and acquires Arenas from Washington for Rashard Lewis, the sources said. It is a swing-for-the-fences for Orlando, which came under immense pressure to make a big trade while losing five of its last six games and taking an obvious back seat to Boston and Miami in the East. Turkoglu, who struggled in stints with Toronto and Phoenix, returns to Orlando -- where he was a key piece in Orlando's run to the 2009 NBA Finals. CBSSports.com

The Washington Wizards and Orlando Magic are close to a trade that will send guard Gilbert Arenas to Orlando in exchange for forward Rashard Lewis, a league source tells TNT's David Aldridge. The proposed trade was expected to be completed Saturday, perhaps before the Wizards played the Miami Heat Saturday evening in Washington and the Magic host the 76ers in Orlando. The deal would rid the Wizards of one of their biggest public relations headaches in years. While Arenas helped Washington make the playoffs for the first time in a decade and became an All-Star playing alongside Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, his infamous suspension for bringing guns into the Verizon Center locker room last December as part of a prank and/or confrontation with then-teammate Javaris Crittenton cast a shadow over the franchise. Arenas was suspended by Commissioner David Stern for the final 50 games of last season and served time in a halfway house in the D.C. suburbs after pleading guilty to one felony count of carrying a pistol without a license. The Orlando Magic have made a bold return to championship contention Saturday by packaging Vince Carter in a six-player exchange for Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu, a league source confirmed to SI.com. Orlando was also pursuing a second deal that would send Rashard Lewis to Washington for guard Gilbert Arenas, according to another league source, who termed the trade imminent. SI.com

A rumor recently surfaced that the Indiana Pacers were closing in on a trade with the Phoenix Suns that would land Earl Clark in Indiana and send Solomon Jones to Phoenix. Sources close to the situation tell HOOPSWORLD that not only are the Pacers not interested in acquiring the troubled Clark, they also have little interest in moving Jones. HoopsWorld
