The Mavs originally claimed Curry off waivers on Oct. 25. Brand noted that he'll miss all that precious space Curry's overly wide body took up in the paint. "I'll miss that presence," said Brand of the player who averaged 4.5 points and two rebounds in 12.5 minutes per game for the Mavs. "He had a big presence down there. "I hope Eddy Curry gets picked up by a team because in the minutes he did play he played OK for us.." Fort Worth Star-Telegram |

![]() Marc Stein: Mavs, I'm told, poised to waive Eddy Curry -- NOT Dominique Jones -- to make roster room for Troy Murphy. Twitter @ESPNSteinLine With the Dallas Mavericks close to signing power forward Troy Murphy to a one-year deal, center Eddy Curry will be released, according to a source. Fort Worth Star-Telegram The reason Curry would be released, according to the source, is because center Chris Kaman is expected to back ready to play in Saturday's home opener against the Charlotte Bobcats. It's also because power forward Dirk Nowitzki is still about a month away from returning to the court, and Murphy spends as much time on the perimeter as Nowitzki. In other words, the Mavs have a much stronger need right now for a power forward who can stretch the court (Murphy) than a center of Curry's ilk. Murphy, however, still has to pass his physical with the Mavs. Fort Worth Star-Telegram The Mavericks are at the NBA roster limit of 15, so a player must be waived or traded to open a roster spot for Murphy. With center Chris Kaman tentatively scheduled to return from a calf injury _ and Dirk Nowitzki out at least a few more weeks from arthroscopic knee surgery _ the Mavs’ greater need is at power forward. That would appear to make recently added center Eddy Curry the odd Maverick out. The Mavericks have shopped third-year guard Dominique Jones, but haven’t found a taker. Dallas Morning News With Chris Kaman soon to return from a calf injury, sources said, Dallas decided that it needed more of a stretch power forward like Murphy as cover for Dirk Nowitzki than another back-to-the-basket player. Curry, whom the Mavs claimed off waivers the day before the preseason finale, had nine points and four rebounds during the Dallas' 1-1 season-opening road trip. He played a significant role in the Mavs' win over the Lakers, scoring seven points and grabbing four rebounds in 17 minutes. The Mavs have agreed to a one-year deal with Murphy, pending him passing a physical. ESPN.com Alex Kennedy: The Mavericks will waive Eddy Curry. Just as I said when the Spurs released Curry last week, don't be surprised if another team signs him. Twitter @AlexKennedyNBA |

![]() Curry's line Tuesday wasn't beastly -- seven points, four rebounds and four personal fouls in 17 minutes -- but he bothered Gasol all night on both ends. Once a ghastly 300 pounds-plus, a slimmed-down Curry bumped Gasol on both ends of the floor. While he was out there, Curry was the most physical player for an undermanned team that had to resort to guerrilla warfare to beat the Lakers 99-91 in Los Angeles. "I asked [Gasol], 'You got something personal against me or something?'" Curry said. "'You trying to body me?' But it was fun." ESPN.com |
