The Warriors are now just three games out of the eighth seed in the West. The talk in the locker room after the win over the Clippers was about being right in the playoff hunt, and how a win like Sunday night's is exactly what they needed. Ekpe Udoh: "We're about to make this run. We're right there." Sulia

League sources say the Warriors have informed teams that they're only interested in moving Monta Ellis in a trade with Orlando that lands them Dwight Howard. Rival executives are skeptical that Golden State would give up significant assets (such as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Ekpe Udoh) without a long-term commitment from Howard, who has indicated that the Bay Area is not on his list of preferred destinations. Udoh admits he hears his name mentioned in trade talks from time to time but ultimately ignores most of the reports which surface. “I don’t pay any attention to [trade rumors],” Udoh told HOOPSWORLD. “I just go about my day. At the end of the day it’s a business. The only thing you can control is coming out and playing hard.” Based on the team’s performance to start the season Udoh also understands if the trade winds ship him or one of the squad’s star players away. “We’re united but at the end of the day you have to start winning games,” Udoh said referring to the best way to stop trade rumors from surfacing. The second-year big men are linked because the Warriors selected Udoh with the No. 6 pick in the 2010 draft, one spot ahead of where Detroit snagged Monroe. Riley said he doesn't regret the decision because Udoh is a better fit for the Warriors. "With draft picks, oftentimes you pick a guy and somebody two spots or 10 spots later ends up being a pretty good player," he said. "That's the nature of the draft. There are probably some people who would say they should have taken (Stephen) Curry earlier. Ekpe is going to continue to develop, he's going to get stronger, and we're confident that he's going to come into his own." San Francisco Chronicle

Riley said Udoh won’t be judged by Monroe. A couple team sources said they take solace in the fact that Udoh is still a good draft pick even if Monroe may have the sexier numbers. Monroe is the better scorer and rebounder. Frankly, he’s the better basketball player. He has the most star potential. He makes opposing teams game plan against him. Contra Costa Times

But Udoh, the Warriors hope, will develop his scoring and rebounding and make up the difference with his intangibles. Over time, Golden State is praying, that will make Udoh the most valuable to them. And make their passing of Monroe that much more palatable. RILEY: “What you have with draft picks, often times you’ll pick a guy and somebody picked two spots or 10 spots behind him will turn out to be a good player. So you know that’s part of the nature of the draft. … You have to work with that. You have to understand that, that happens from time to time and we feel like that Ekpe is still going to grow.” Contra Costa Times

Barbieri: Howard may not like it much, but I think you're right - I think it did give you the best chance to win, especially shorthanded like that. Mark Jackson: The score is 22-13 in the first quarter, and after Dre (Andris Biedrins) picks up his foul we have to take him out, and Ekpe Udoh comes into the game. The very first play, Dwight Howard spins, gets to the rim and dunks it. We were smaller, and physically he's so dominant, so we had no other option - and he's a bad free-throw shooter. If you look at the numbers, 21-for-39 is nothing to be proud of. It gave us a chance to be in control of that game. We did it for three reasons: because he's a bad free-throw shooter, to eliminate his dominance and then to eliminate their three-point shooting. It took them out of rhythm offensively. According to sources close to the talks, the Warriors' offer includes third-year guard Stephen Curry, rookie guard Klay Thompson and second-year forward Ekpe Udoh. Golden State would pay a hefty price on top of losing those players because its plan would involve waiving center Andris Biedrins via the new amnesty clause (his deal has three years and $27 million remaining) and signing Chandler to a four-year deal that would likely start in the neighborhood of $15 million annually. There is conflicting information on the Clippers' offer, as a source close to the team disputed a report that shooting guard Eric Gordon and Jordan had been offered as trade pieces but other sources insisted that the two, as well as second-year guard Eric Bledsoe, had been made available to the Hornets. Seems like Warriors forward Ekpe Udoh is not thrilled about the possibility of playing abroad during the lockout. “He’s not going overseas,” agent Chris Luchey told HoopsHype. “Obviously, he has a number of options if he decided to go. At this present moment, he hasn’t showed me any interest in securing him a European deal.” HoopsHype

Power forward Ekpe Udoh is working on his degree at Baylor and doing workouts there in Waco, Texas. Shooting guard Monta Ellis has made some appearances at youth camps in the Southeast and shoots nearly every day at the courts on his 6.5-acre Tennessee estate. Mid-level staffers from both the owner and player sides met Friday, but no negotiating sessions involving Commissioner David Stern or NBPA executive director Billy Hunter have been scheduled. No top-level meetings, no new proposals and no movement toward an end since the lockout began. San Francisco Chronicle
