HoopsHype Eric Bledsoe rumors

Two months later, it's no more plausible after he has attained what he wanted on South Beach, but dreaming is free for a Suns franchise that can create about $20 million of cap space in July and would like to play off Eric Bledsoe's close friendship with James to make the pursuit. "If we can get LeBron, I would like to get him," Suns guard Goran Dragic said when asked about team off-season needs. Arizona Republic

The only murky part is Bledsoe has not committed himself publicly to the idea of wanting to come back to Phoenix. He deflects repeated questions on the matter, providing answers about spending time with his family and working on his game in the summer in Birmingham, Ala. He makes slight occasional references to a Phoenix future, as he did when talking about missing the playoffs: "It was a failure that we didn't make it. We've got a little bit of experience going into next year to know what it takes." Arizona Republic

His teammates seem to have a better feel, especially his neighbor this season on team flights. "He wants to be back," Smith said. "He likes it here." Arizona Republic

After all the point guard battles you’ve had, when the Suns traded for Eric Bledsoe, did you say to yourself, “Oh, man. Again?” Be honest. Goran Dragic: I’m always honest. When I found out, I was like, “Oh my god! What is going on right now?” I was never afraid of competition, but, of course, you start thinking: “What are they going to do now? Are they going to move me?” But I called my agent, and he said not to worry. And the GM and the coach — they called me the next day. Coach Jeff [Hornacek] explained to me that he wanted us to play together, and be like the old Suns with two point guards like Jeff and KJ (Kevin Johnson). When I found that out, I was kind of surprised. But at the same time, I couldn’t wait to share. We had some trouble at first, trying to figure out those things. But me and Eric — we are really good friends. We talk a lot. And you can see that in how we play. Grantland

Jeff Hornacek talked about making a push for the playoffs in the ultra-competitive Western Conference, the most rewarding part of his first season as a head coach in the NBA, and adjusting to having Eric Bledsoe back. HoopsAddict.com

Suns guard Eric Bledsoe still has a plan to make his return Wednesday night at home against Cleveland but he could move it to Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. “It’s up to him,” Coach Jeff Hornacek said. “(Head athletic trainer) Aaron (Nelson) and those guys have done all the conditioning and training that he needs to do. When he feels comfortable with going and feel like he’s ready to go, he’ll go. Wednesday is kind of that target day. Arizona Republic

Bledsoe will return to game action for the Suns in the next week. The point guard will play no later than next Wednesday’s home game against Cleveland and no earlier than Sunday at Golden State. The Suns also play Monday at the Los Angeles Clippers, Bledsoe’s former team, at the Staples Center, where he injured his knee in a Dec. 30 win. Bledsoe underwent arthroscopic surgery Jan. 10 and has been rehabilitating it with significant recent progress. On Wednesday, Bledsoe participated in full-court, five-on-five scrimmaging for the third time in five days. Arizona Republic

Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe will try his second day of gradually increasing five-on-five work at practice Monday. “I’ve tried to talk to Eric about saying you’ve got to just push through being tired because that’s the only way you’re going to get in better shape,” Hornacek said. Arizona Republic

The Suns players and staff get a pick-me-up at every practice and when they walk through the training room. They have been seeing rehabilitating point guard Eric Bledsoe taking shots on the court and running on a treadmill. Friday will mark five weeks since Bledsoe’s right-knee surgery. No timetable for a recovery or return was shared, but many believed he could return not long after the All-Star break. “He’s making good progress on his rehab,” Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby said. “He’s progressing as expected. We’re still optimistic that he’ll return some time after the All-Star break. “He’s been working diligently with our training staff and the reports are encouraging.” Arizona Republic

As a guest of the Doug and Wolf Show on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Tuesday as part of Newsmakers Week, Phoenix Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby was asked if the team had seen enough of the guard to know if they are going to match any offer the restricted free agent might receive from another team over the summer. "I think our answer to that is yes, that we know enough about Eric as a player," Babby said. "Even more importantly, we've lived with him now for almost a year as a person. We like everything about him. Like him as a teammate, like him as a representative of our franchise and everything that he stands for. "He's got a tremendous future." Arizona's Sports Page

It's the second time Bledsoe has needed the meniscus in that knee operated on since 2011. "I always feel in these medical situations that we have an extraordinary advantage because of not only the quality of our training staff, led by Aaron Nelson, but also the quality of our medical staff led by Dr. Carter," Babby said. "And if they tell us, as I believe they will, that he's going to have a long and healthy career, then I'm willing to take my chances and I think the whole organization will be willing to take our chances on that. And we know his circumstance better than anyone else would know it. "I think he will be a Phoenix Sun for a long time; that would be my expectation and my hope." Arizona's Sports Page

The Miami Heat’s stop in Phoenix for Tuesday night’s game is also a chance for LeBron James to check in on family. James considers injured Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe to be family. Their close relationship was apparent this off-season when he tweeted a photo of them out together and wrote, “Phx got them something special in him.” James made Bledsoe the only non-Heat player in a Samsung commercial, with that same photo appearing to show Bledsoe calling James. “I take care of family,” James said of insisting that Bledsoe be in the commercial. With each passing day, Phoenix Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe gets closer to returning to the court. While there remains no firm timetable -- all parties have expressed optimism of a post-All-Star break return -- the good news is Bledsoe has not suffered any setbacks in his recovery from arthroscopic knee surgery in January. The 24-year-old guard was re-evaluated over the weekend. "Doctors said everything looks good," head coach Jeff Hornacek said Monday. "He's just going to continue his rehab. But, I think, because he got that OK, they'll step up his workload and continue to push him to get back as soon as he can." Arizona's Sports Page

Speaking of the Suns, I was told the Los Angeles Lakers might go hard after Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe, who is out the rest of the season with a knee injury. Bledsoe will be a restricted free agent next summer, but I'm told the Lakers might be willing to overpay him to pry him away from Phoenix ESPN.com

Sarver said his duty is to provide the best health care possible for his players, and that his players have to feel comfortable before returning to the court. He also said he doesn’t need Bledsoe to return in order to match any contract offer that might be coming to the restricted free agent this off-season. “I think we had a pretty good idea of who Eric was when we traded for him,” Sarver said. “So I wouldn’t say we need to see more of him to match any offer. Obviously, we’d like to see more of him because our team plays better when he’s playing. And we’re competing (now), we’re making a playoff run this year. And I think if we can get him back, not only can we make a playoff run, we have a chance to be a team that can win in the playoffs, too.” Arizona Republic

The Suns said in a news release that Bledsoe “will pursue a possible return to action during the second half of this NBA season.” Generously listed at 6-feet-1, Bledsoe will be a restricted free agent this summer but Wall believes that the 24-year-old speedster proved his true value around the league this season. “It’s kind of sad to see him go down, because he probably was going to be most improved player and he was having a career year,” Wall said.
