And the revelation of how they see him as part of their possible plans exposed a new truth in recent days: the Clippers have considered the idea of trading power forward Blake Griffin. Their interest in holding onto Bledsoe is, in part, tied to the notion that they could put him in a package with Griffin to do a sign-and-trade for Lakers center and free-agent-to-be Dwight Howard. It's unclear whether the Lakers would consider the proposal if Howard decided not to re-sign with them, but it is a clear sign that the Clippers no longer see Griffin as the untouchable asset that he was once believed to be. Evan Dunlap: Hard to imagine LA making Afflalo trade w/o Doc and KG. Their presence would have ensured Paul wouldn't bolt in FA. Can't lose Bledsoe now Twitter @BQRMagic

Sources close to the process told ESPN.com that the Celtics and Clippers held "substantive discussions" Monday on the proposed multi-layered transactions that would send Rivers and Celtics star Kevin Garnett to Los Angeles. But the teams, sources say, remain unable to agree on a final trade framework to go through with the two deals, even after Boston relented on its insistence that the Clippers include prized young guard Eric Bledsoe as part of the package for Rivers and Garnett. Discussions over a blockbuster deal reached an impasse on Saturday when Boston general manager Danny Ainge held firm that Bledsoe had to be a part of package that included DeAndre Jordan and a first-round pick, but sources say that Boston has shown a willingness to find another asset to supplant Bledsoe and complete the complicated deal, sources said. Here’s the latest update on my report: the Lakers won’t do a sign-and-trade if Dwight Howard leaves, unless they get an offer they don’t expect for someone special. You know, like Blake Griffin and Eric Bledsoe. Talk about unexpected and special. To cut to the chase, the Clippers have not offered it, and, I was just told by someone with knowledge of the consternation among the Clippers, won’t. Even if was more like a notion they were toying with than a plan, I can tell you where it started. Clippers. Lakers Nation

Discussions over a blockbuster deal to send Boston Celtics star Kevin Garnett to the Los Angeles Clippers – with Doc Rivers as coach – reached an impasse on Saturday afternoon, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Clippers are willing to part with center DeAndre Jordan and a first-round draft pick for Garnett – and the rights to hire Rivers – but so far have refused to include Boston's desire for point guard Eric Bledsoe into the package, sources said. Yet sources say that the Clippers continue to tell Boston that they will not include Bledsoe in the proposed trade for Garnett, largely because they are determined to keep Chris Paul's backup to headline a separate down-the-road trade once they're certain that Paul has committed his long-term future to L.A. Talks between the Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers on transactions involving Doc Rivers and players were said to be all but dead last night. Sources close to the situation weren’t sure if anything could yet rekindle the discussions, but it appears a grand bargain that would have netted the Clippers the coach while the Celts acquired players to jump-start their rebuilding has hit a road block.
