HoopsHype Erik Murphy rumors
Erik Murphy wants to play 2014 FIBA World Championship. Murphy, whose mother is Finnish, has decided to play for Finland national basketball team. "I want to go to Spain and try to fit in with the teamand do whatever I can to help the team win games. I don't know what my role will be or what they expect to me, but playing for your country is always something special". Sportando
With Teague back on the Bulls' roster, Thibodeau hinted again that Murphy, a rookie, might be headed to the D-League soon. "We'll take a look at it," Thibodeau said. "And things have to match up in terms of where we are in terms of what we need in practice and also where they are in terms of where they are with their games. It worked out; I believe Marquis played in eight games, so that was good. It was a short amount of time for him to be away but a lot of games. So that was good." ESPN.com
In the case of Erik Murphy, though, it helps to better understand what an NBA stretch four is supposed to do. So who better to ask than Murphy himself? “It’s a big guy who can stretch the floor and spread out the defense,” Murphy explained following a workout at the Berto Center last week. “You have to be capable of shooting the ball and making plays away from the basket. Obviously, Derrick is a great point guard and he will use all the space he can get,” Murphy continued. “So if you have a big guy who can spread the floor and space out the defense, it’s a big plus for a player like him.” NBA.com
