HoopsHype Ersan Ilyasova rumors

September 22, 2014 Updates

Ilyasova did not play international basketball for Turkey this summer in an effort to regain full health, and he said at Monday's annual team golf tournament that he is "100% healthy" entering next week's preseason training camp. "This summer is the first time for a long time I didn't play for the national team," said Ilyasova, a member of Turkey's runner-up World Championship squad in 2010. "I want to be part of the national team, but it is what it is. I have to first fix myself as well as be healthy. Last year I just came from the European Championship to training camp. I think it was really too much on my body. It was really bad, and I kind of rushed myself to come back the first game of the season. It was like a snowball. It gets worse and worse, and I never find myself 100%. Especially when you have a season like that, everybody was looking for some positive things. This summer I spent a lot of time fixing my ankle. Hopefully this season I start on a new page, with a lot of energy and power." Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

One of the final straws for Nets ownership came around the trade deadline. Kidd advocated for a trade with the Bucks that would sent Brook Lopez and Mirza Teletovic to Milwaukee for the deeply troubled Larry Sanders and Ersan Ilyasova. The suggestion, mostly about Kidd's belief that Lopez couldn't fit in his system, was considered and rejected by the Nets brass. NetsDaily

Yet, behind the scenes, the Bucks’ brass has been busy. They’ve been discussing several trade possibilities and, if you believe some NBA officials, they’ll consummate at least one deal. The most likely Buck player to be relocated to a different zip code is Ersan Ilyasova, who is coming off a disappointing season but whose stock remains fairly high. Racine Journal-Times

It’s hardly a secret some teams who are picking in the late teens and 20s are receptive to moving their pick. One of them is Phoenix, which has the 18th and 27th overall picks and would like to add a veteran frontcourt presence. Another is Oklahoma City, which is unlikely to keep both of its picks at 21 and 29. And there is also Houston, which has the 25th pick and failed in its attempt to secure a “stretch 4” at the trading deadline in February. Houston has shown interest in Ilyasova in the past with some Rockets firmly believing Ilyasova would nicely complement Rocket stars James Harden and Dwight Howard with his potent perimeter shooting. Still another Bucks player who could be wearing a new uniform next season is beleaguered center Larry Sanders, who has been saddled by a spate of off-court issues. Sanders will be entering the first of a fully-guaranteed four-year, $44 million contract next season, making him virtually untradeable. However, some team may be enticed to take on Sanders’ issues and hefty contract if perhaps Ilyasova, Henson or Knight was part of a trade package. Racine Journal-Times

Ilyasova admitted the injury could affect his participation with Turkey in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, scheduled to be held in Spain in late August and early September. "He (Ferkel) said, 'It's about your career,'" Ilyasova said. "I will discuss with it the federation and the national team and I will probably not go there. First things first. I have to figure out things and get it better. In July training camps start and that's when we will start the discussion. Most likely I'm not going to go." Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

Charles F. Gardner: Bucks are shutting down Ersan Ilyasova for rest of season after he visited doctor in LA on Wednesday. Right ankle injury has been problematic for Ilyasova since October. Contributed to tough year as shooting percentage dipped. Ilyasova was hurt in first preseason game at Cleveland on Oct. 8. Returned for regular-season opener but missed camp. The sixth year pro says the combination of being included in trade rumors and the mounting losses was a personally frustrating situation to endure. Ilyasova says he’s glad the rumor period has passed and he’s looking forward to general manager John Hammond rebuilding a playoff caliber roster moving forward. “When you go through a season like this and your name comes up [in rumors] it is a little frustrating,” Ilyasova told Basketball Insiders. “But I still feel myself as part of this franchise. I’m hopeful we can find the right pieces for the team so we can play much better because we really need it. I want to be part of a playoff team and that’s what I’m looking forward to, [the franchise] building a better team – a playoff team. “It’s disappointing when you go through a season like this. Especially after last year when we made the playoffs and played against last year’s champions (Miami).” Basketball Insiders

Bucks forward Ersan Ilyasova says Adrien has earned his respect and wouldn’t mind seeing him around with the franchise long term. “He’s been playing really great,” Ilyasova told Basketball Insiders of Adrien. “He brings a lot of energy and effort to our team. Sometimes you go to a fresher place because of trades. Now we have a new addition, a new soldier to be involved. Now we have to get our confidence up, but he has fit into our team chemistry fine.” Basketball Insiders

He has played with John Salmons, Corey Maggette, Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis, among others. He has played with Luke Ridnour on two occasions, three years apart. "I've seen a lot," Ilyasova said. "Even last year being in the playoffs and we were hoping we were going to build on it. "I came back to Milwaukee and it was like a new team. It's really frustrating but at some point we have to find stability. We have a great organization. We have good fans, but we just have to be consistent with what we do. "At some point I'm hoping we find the right pieces. I feel really comfortable being with the Milwaukee Bucks. We've had a lot of change, but I hope we find the right players." Sources close to the situation in Milwaukee have informed Basketball Insiders that despite the widespread reports circulating, actual trade talks have been slow and the general feeling in the locker room among players is that there won’t be a rash of moves at the deadline. The source maintains the situation remains fluid, but the team is likely to hold on to assets such as Ersan Ilyasova, Gary Neal and Luke Ridnour if they cannot secure the desired package in return.
