A European franchise has long been mooted as the next step up the ladder for the sport as it looks to compete with football for international followers. "It is on our list as something that we continue to explore, but we do not want to get ahead of ourselves - it is something we continue to study. PT: Do you see a day when there's an NBA team in Europe? Have you had conversations where players seem in favor of that? MR: Yes and yes. I think the league has an interest in seeing the game grow, and I think the players do. Our players routinely, if things aren't going well, or for whatever reason, end up playing in Europe and then come back here. Our women -- it's remarkable, they spend more time playing overseas than they spend playing at home. And sadly, some of the 18-year-olds who aren't able to make money here are playing overseas. More likely for now is that the NBA will allow advertising on team jerseys, said Silver, who was on his second visit to China since becoming commissioner in February. Ads on uniforms will boost the NBA’s global growth, he said. “It would cause a whole host of companies to become that much more invested in the NBA,” Silver said. “Just think about it -- if there was a Chinese company that was represented on an NBA jersey, and for the affinity of Chinese fans to see that familiar brand on an NBA team -- that’s going to help grow the game here.” Bloomberg
