Warriors center Festus Ezeli will not play in NBA Summer League games due to right shin inflammation, the team announced Monday on the eve of its first workout in Las Vegas. Ezeli after missing all of last season recovering from right knee surgery will have his return delayed because of precautionary reasons, according to the Warriors, who believe the latest injury is “nothing serious.” Contra Costa Times

Warriors center Festus Ezeli said Monday he has been cleared to play after spending all of this season recovering from right knee surgery and that he expected to be in action at the Las Vegas Summer League next month. “They think it’s a good idea, so I probably will,” Ezeli said of the Warriors at the team’s basketball camp for children at Sonoma Day Country School. “Just go to Vegas, get some touches and get my rhythm back. Just get back to playing. Get back to being comfortable on the court.” Contra Costa Times

The Golden State Warriors are tipping off the team’s new “Step Up Your Game” initiative in partnership with a private, statewide health foundation The California Endowment at a Warriors Community Basketball Clinic, it was announced today. A project of the statewide Active Alliance, Step Up Your Game is designed to provide Bay Area youth with fun activities while also encouraging and motivating them to pursue their goals by working hard, making good choices and living a well-balanced lifestyle. For the first event of the program, Warriors players Festus Ezeli, Draymond Green, Nemanja Nedovic and Marreese Speights will run basketball drills with over 100 students from Hayward High School and San Lorenzo High School, along with emphasizing the importance of maximizing their potential. In my column about bullying in the NBA, I noted that the Warriors filled then-rookie Kent Bazemore’s Audi with popcorn and removed the tires from fellow rookie Festus Ezeli’s car and placed them in his locker. Veteran forward David Lee clarified that both pranks were motivated by the rookies not following team rules. Bleacher Report

Bazemore violated the shower code, which is that if all the showers are occupied when a veteran enters, he must give his up regardless of where he is in his hygiene routine. (Apparently Stephen Curry entered and Bazemore said something to the effect of, “Just give me a minute.”) Ezeli’s indiscretion was helping himself to a plate of food on the team plane ahead of the veterans. “We didn’t do it just because they were rookies,” Lee said. “There was cause and effect.” Bleacher Report

Joe Lacob: With Bogut, you have to look back and say, yes, he has been injury-prone. There is a big risk here that we're going to be signed up for four years on a guy who may not play as much as we'd like. But you have to look at free agency next summer. There's not a lot. We would be fighting, like we were two years ago, looking for a center. We like Festus Ezeli, but we believe in being good and big and having depth. We had to take a chance. We decided he plays the exact type of basketball that we want to base our team around. So, let's take a chance. Hey, you're not going to win on all these things. But he fits very, very well with what we're trying to build. CSNBayArea.com
