In an interview Tuesday, Vázquez's agent, José Cobelo, confirmed that Vázquez has agreed in principle to a new contract with Unicaja Málaga, a team in Spain's top league. Cobelo said the new deal is guaranteed for two seasons and does not include an out clause that would enable the 6-foot-10 big man to leave Spain for the NBA. The contract includes an option to extend the deal for a third year, the 2014-15 season. "We haven't had much communication with Orlando," Cobelo said. "They didn't have much interest, so they didn't affect our situation." Orlando Sentinel

Cobelo still would not rule out the possibility of Vázquez making the jump to the NBA eventually. "It depends on what happens when we finish this contract," Cobelo said. "It's possible that, yes, he could still come." Orlando Sentinel

Fran Vazquez: "If there's a real chance to come back [to Unicaja], I would love that. I have a couple of options for next year but as of today Barcelona has the right to match any offer, that's the only thing clear." Malaga Hoy

Assistant General Manager Dave Twardzik told Buamann “there is a chance” Orlando could have him on the roster next season. The Magic believe Vazquez signed a one-year deal this year with plans of potentially coming over after the lockout. However, a source has informed ESPN Florida Vazquez is likely simply using the threat of playing in the NBA to get another new deal in Spain. Vazquez, Orlando’s first round draft pick back in 2005, currently plays for FC Barcelona Regal and is averaging 4.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. ESPN.com

Rubio thinks Vázquez can help the Magic if Vázquez decides to sign with the Magic when his contract with Barçelona ends after this season. "He's physically ready to come here [and play in the NBA]," Rubio said of the 6-foot-10 big man. "I played with him a couple of years in Barçelona, and it's easy to play with him because he doesn't need the ball. He's a worker. He's going to fight for every rebound. He's going to fight every possession. And you can throw the ball in there, and he's going to catch it and throw it down." Orlando Sentinel
