HoopsHype Gal Mekel rumors

November 6, 2014 Updates

The Indiana Pacers are working to complete the signing of free-agent guard A.J. Price after abandoning plans to sign Gal Mekel because of a procedural snag with Mekel's visa, according to league sources. Sources told ESPN.com that the Pacers, after Wednesday flying Mekel to Boston so he could meet the team there Thursday, pulled out of a deal to sign the Israeli point guard upon learning that Mekel's visa that allows him to play in the NBA would likely not be renewed until Friday in the wake of his recent release by the Dallas Mavericks. The Pacers, sources said, then moved onto Price, who spent his first three NBA seasons in Indiana and became a free agent this week after his recent release by the Cleveland Cavaliers. ESPN.com

Who are some FA point guards the Thunder could look at signing? Anthony Slater: Gal Mekel has been rumored. Was recently with the Mavs before getting released after they signed J.J. Barea. Ish Smith is another option. But my guess: Michael Jenkins. He was in camp with OKC and played relatively well when given the opportunity. He knows the system, is comfortable with the team and can shoot it a little bit. Nobody they bring in is gonna be groundbreaking, so my guess is they go with someone they are familiar with.
