Indiana has played better lately, but the Pacers are still willing to talk about making an adjustment here or there, though they aren't willing to talk about either George Hill or Paul George, according to sources. NBA.com

The explosion that tragically took two lives and destroyed dozens of homes last week on the Southside of Indianapolis was an event that was felt deep in the heart of Indiana Fever star Katie Douglas. “I was born on the Southside,” she said. “I live on the Southside. This happened only miles from where we just won the WNBA title. This happened just a few miles from where I grew up.” Douglas and teammate Tamika Catchings joined with Indiana Pacers’ star and Indianapolis native George Hill to host the victims of the Southside explosion in an event where they could get away, even for just a couple of hours, from being consumed by their shocking circumstances. Taking over for the departed Nick Collison at point guard, Hill is averaging 11.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists. He scored the deciding basket with two seconds remaining in Indiana’s 90-88 victory over Indiana on opening night, a play the Spurs coaching staff celebrated almost as much as Indiana’s. “I’ve watched him closely,” Popovich said. “As you very well know, he was a team favorite, a fan favorite, a wonderful community guy. Great competitor. So we’re always pulling for him to be successful. We were jumping out of our seat when he made the shot a couple of games ago to win the game for them. We were thrilled.” San Antonio Express-News

Ex-Knicks president Donnie Walsh, ousted by Garden chairman Jim Dolan last June after he was offered a 40% pay cut, is returning to the Indiana Pacers. Walsh, the long-time Indiana CEO before he came to New York to rebuild the Knicks, will be leading the Pacers in their efforts to land free agents starting when the period opens Sunday, league sources said Monday. The team's No. 1 priority is to re-sign point guard George Hill, a restricted free agent, and sources said Walsh will be spearheading the team's efforts to keep Hill. New York Daily News

There's no guarantee they'll open training camp in the fall with the same roster. Roy Hibbert (restricted), George Hill (restricted), Leandro Barbosa (unrestricted), Lou Amundson (unrestricted), Kyrylo Fesenko (unrestricted) and A.J. Price (unrestricted) are all free agents. It's a long shot, but Vogel said he'd like to have the same roster next season. "I think we're really good now and I think we have a tremendous chance for growth w the guys we have on our roster," he said. Indianapolis Star

George Hill is an Indiana guy. Grew up here. Went to high school at Broad Ripple, played his college ball at IUPUI. He'll become a restricted free agent this summer, and he made it clear Thursday he hopes his professional playing days continue in the city in which he grew up. "This is home; Indiana is always going to be home," Hill said. "I'm going to take it one day at a time and see what's in store for me. Hopefully I'm back here. This is where I want to be." The Pacers didn't cry foul after falling down 1-0 in the best-of-seven second round series. Instead, they basically protested in silence by tip-toeing around the disparity they felt played a significant role in the outcome of the game. A nine-point loss by the Pacers included them being called for nine more fouls than Miami (31-22) and also being outscored by nine points (29-20) from the free throw line. “It's unfortunate,” Hill said, making sure to avoid addressing the way the game was officiated. “No comment on that. We saw what everybody else saw. We know. Y'all know. The whole world knows. Sometimes, you just have to keep what you're thinking to yourself.” ESPN.com

A defensive stop here, a well-executed offensive possession there, and this was a one-possession game with a chance to win. The Pacers belong in this series. They know that for a fact. "We know we can play with this team,'' Darren Collison said. "We know we can win here.'' Said Hill: "One game isn't going to kill us. We can do better. This isn't a time to panic. It's a time to come together.'' Indianapolis Star

Stock up: Pacers PG George Hill is helping his value. He turned down a $6 million-per-year extension before the season and now might get more this summer as a restricted free agent. The Spurs and Tim Duncan, especially, want him to return to San Antonio, but San Antonio might not be able to afford him. New York Daily News
