The Los Angeles Clippers today announced that Gerald Madkins has been hired as the team’s Director of Basketball Operations. Directly reporting to newly appointed Vice President of Basketball Operations Gary Sacks, Madkins will work closely with Sacks on all facets of the team’s basketball operations. Madkins joins the Clippers after serving as the Vice President of Player Personnel for the New Orleans Hornets for the past two seasons. In his role with the Hornets, Madkins was responsible for overseeing the scouting staff, salary cap and database management, pro, college, international, and developmental league talent evaluation, as well as assisting the general manager with all front office duties. In their quest to continue to change the team's culture, the Clippers have hired highly-thought-of Gerald Madkins to be the team’s director of basketball operations, said NBA executives Friday who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. Madkins, who has worked in the NBA for 10 years, will work in the front office alongside Gary Sacks, who was recently named the Clippers’ general manager. Los Angeles Times

Continuing in the hopes of restructuring and upgrading the basketball operations department, New Orleans Hornets General Manager Dell Demps is quietly assembling what one source described as "an All-Star team" of front-office personnel. To that end, next week the Hornets will announce the hiring of Gerald Madkins as vice president of player personnel and Tim Connelly as assistant general manager, sources close to the team said Thursday.
