How much weight has he lost? "I don't know yet," Davis answered. "I'm going to check it out at the end of the season and see how much I'm going to lose. It's a challenge. I'm challenging myself." Davis started his new diet to take some pressure off the fifth metatarsal in his left foot, which he fractured Jan. 30 and had repaired surgically Feb. 1. The bone is almost completely healed, and Davis said his foot feels "great." But he added that he won't start running any earlier than May. "I'm just being cautious, because I'm a heavy dude trying to get light," he said. "[With] the pressure on my foot, I'm just trying to make sure that I don't add any more pressure and try to get as slim as possible." Orlando Sentinel |

With the possible exception of fellow veteran Glen Davis, no player appeared to take the Magic's losing harder than Afflalo. After defeats, Afflalo would note the ways the team — including himself — could have played better, and team officials hoped his intensity would filter down to his younger teammates. Orlando Sentinel At the Orlando Magic's annual Black Tie and Tennies Gala on Saturday night, the team announced that Jameer Nelson, its co-captain, was the recipient of the 2013 Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award. The honor is the first of Nelson's nine-year career with the Magic. The award is given annually to the Magic player "who has dedicated his efforts off the court for the purpose of enhancing other’s lives," according to a team release, and comes with a $50,000 donation to the charity of the winner's choice. Team co-captain Glen Davis was the other finalist for the award. Orlandoinstripedpost.com |

The Magic's overall ATH score is 0.913, which is comfortably behind the New Orleans Hornets' mark of 0.926 for last in the league. Orlando's most athletic players are rookie forward Maurice Harkless, second-year forward Tobias Harris, and veteran big man Glen Davis. Entering Wednesday's games, Harkless ranked as the league's 120th most athletic player. No other team in the league had its most athletic player ranked so low overall; the Philadelphia 76ers, with gadget forward Thaddeus Young (85th in the league), came closest to matching the Magic in this respect. Glen Davis is trying a vegan diet — a diet in which he’s not consuming any animal products. He said he made the change at least in part to help his left foot, which he fractured on Jan. 30. “The lighter, the better,” Davis said. “No pressure on that foot. I’m just trying to find ways to eat comfortably and also have a little bit of taste. It’s difficult, but at the same time, it’s about your mental mind-set. You’ve just got to stay with it.” On Feb. 1, a screw was inserted into the fifth metatarsal in Davis’ left foot to stabilize the bone and promote healing. He’s expected to recover fully. ![]() Glen Davis will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot, and Orlando Magic officials expect him to miss eight to 12 weeks, leaving his return by the end of the season in serious doubt. Davis suffered the injury during the fourth minute of Wednesday night’s loss to the New York Knicks. As the Magic ran down the court to transition into their offense, Davis appeared to step on one of Iman Shumpert’s feet. Orlando Sentinel The 6-foot-9 power forward will have a screw inserted into his foot to stabilize the bone and promote healing. “I feel really bad for the guy,” shooting guard J.J. Redick said after the Magic finished practice this afternoon at Harvard University. “I know he’s had high expectations for himself and for this team this season, and he’s had a rough go of it. I feel bad for him.” Orlando Sentinel ![]() Davis, who was in the midst of his finest season as a pro, was likely lost for the rest of the season when he fractured his left foot early in the game. The team found out about the news of the crippling injury midway through Wednesday’s game, sapping the life out of the squad. ``Injuries are a part of it and unfortunately it happened to (Davis),’’ said Nelson, a fellow co-captain. ``I just wish him the best. I gave him a hug, but there’s really nothing you can say to a man like that. I told him I’m here for him and I just hope everything goes well for him.’’ NBA.com |

![]() This is as close as Glen Davis gets to a vow of silence. As the Orlando Magic prepare to face the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night, the emotional power forward plans to avoid talking to referees after questionable calls and non-calls. Davis received a technical foul in each of Orlando’s last four games for complaining to referees. “I’m not going to say ‘Hi,’ ” he pledged. “I’m not going to say, ‘How are you doing?’ I’m just going to come here and play. That’s it because it’s been messing up my game, messing up the flow of my game, and I’ve got to grow up.” Orlando Sentinel Davis is 6 feet 9 and 289 pounds, and he indicated he doesn’t get the calls he wants because of his bulldozing style and his size. “You can’t just think that I am stronger than everybody else,” he said. “If people foul you, they foul you. You know what I mean? Yeah, I don’t jump high. I go straight to the rim. But I’m not going to complain if there’s not a foul. The refs know that. But I’ve got to blend in with the game and let them do what they need to do. So I just need to shut up.” Orlando Sentinel |

Hearing the disappointment in J.J. Redick’s voice from across the Orlando Magic’s locker room, Glen ``Big Baby’’ Davis yelled out encouragement to his despondent teammate late Thursday night. It wasn’t long after DeMar DeRozan drilled an off-balanced, heave of a shot that sunk the Magic and Redick was talking about how Orlando’s chances at making the playoffs later this season were slipping away. ``Hey, J.J., it’s all right. They are going to be loving us again soon,’’ Davis yelled over to Redick. ``I know, we’re going to go on that 10-game winning streak going into the All-Star break,’’ Redick said, hoping he could somehow will the Magic back on track. NBA.com All of the losing has been especially tough on veteran players such as Redick and Davis, both of whom have competed in The NBA Finals before. Seeing this Magic team’s promise slip through its fingers hasn’t set well with the veteran players. ``It’s tough for anybody who values winning. The people who have been here and have won the last few years, it’s been tough on everybody,’’ Redick said. ``The reality is that when we lose the responsibility is one the vets. You can’t put any blame on (rookie forward) Mo Harkless for losing 15 out of 17 or whatever it is now. You know, the ownership is on us to be better.’’ NBA.com |

There are two contracts the Magic would love to package in with any deal they make and that’s Glen Davis and Hedo Turkoglu. Neither is overly attractive, but one or both could be the cost of doing business, especially for a team that wants Reddick or a team that wants to use Orlando’s TPE to facilitate a bigger deal.
