Eventually, they passed on everything because there wasn't a strong consensus in the organization that they'd definitively be better. And when it became clear that Love would be headed to Cleveland instead of a Western Conference rival, such as the Houston Rockets, it made the need to roll the dice even less enticing. “I’m happy about that,” Mychal Thompson, Klay’s father, said last week on the ESPN LA radio show he co-hosts. “He likes it there. He did not want to get traded. As a matter of fact, he saw Kevin in Vegas during the Team USA workouts and said, ‘Thanks a lot, buddy.’ He was teasing him and said, ‘Thanks for putting my name out there in all the trade things’ because he wanted to come to the Warriors. “He’s happy to stay with the Warriors. Thanks to Jerry West and Steve Kerr, they wanted to keep those guys together as they should, so I’m looking forward to that.” Contra Costa Times

Asked about his reaction to Minnesota reportedly reaching an agreement in principle to trade forward Kevin Love to Cleveland, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said he didn’t have one. “It doesn’t include our team, so when other teams make moves, that’s really their business,” Kerr said Thursday. The Warriors haven't spoken with Minnesota for weeks about Love trade scenarios, another league source said. That's due in part to their long-held reluctance to include Thompson in the discussions, but also due to the fact that the Cavs and Wolves settled on these basic deal points weeks ago -- before Love pulled out of his Team USA obligation, one of the league sources said. One rival GM told CBSSports.com that Minnesota has been exploring a separate trade with Philadelphia for Thaddeus Young, who would replace Love in the Wolves' starting lineup. CBSSports.com

How did you learn about the Team USA Select Squad invitation?? Draymond Green: It was amazing. I was thrilled. I actually got a call from Bob Myers, our General Manage,r first and he sent me a text saying, ‘Give me a call I am bout to do an interview on the radio right now.’ First thing I thought was, ‘Okay, I’ve just been traded,’ but I hadn’t heard from my agent so I knew that hadn’t happened so I wondered what was going on. Then he called me as soon as he finished the radio and said, ‘Hey man you have been invited. You are on the USA Select Team.’ He told me it was a big deal and I should really be excited because it is a great opportunity. I was thrilled because just to be in the mix and to be mentioned with the USA Team is an honor in itself. That means you are heading in the right direction. Some of the guys that are on the roster now started off on the Select Team and our country and our league has so much talent that not everyone can make the team, so just to be a part of that means a lot to me. After ESPN.com reported last week that the Cavaliers remain the front-runners to acquire Love in a trade co-headlined by No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins, sources this week have described the Cavs as the only team currently in contention for Love. Sources say the Chicago Bulls are increasingly pessimistic about their chances of trumping Cleveland's offer, while the Golden State Warriors remain unwilling to bend on their longstanding refusal to surrender Klay Thompson in a deal for Love. ESPN.com reported earlier this month that James' short-term contract with the Cavs, which includes a player option to return to free agency next summer and spans only two seasons, would not dissuade Love from giving Cleveland such a commitment. James' arrival, sources said, immediately put the Cavaliers at the same level as Chicago and Golden State on Love's wish list. ESPN.com

One source insisted this week, however, that the Wolves -- especially owner Glen Taylor -- actually now prefer a package headlined by Wiggins to a Thompson-led haul for Love because Wiggins is widely seen as possessing superstar potential while also just starting out on a rookie contract. Thompson is eligible for a lucrative contract extension from the Warriors or any team he's traded to between now and Halloween. ESPN.com
