The Timberwolves and Warriors have continued to discuss a Kevin Love trade, but the teams remain unable to agree on the framework of a deal, with Golden State still unwilling to include Klay Thompson, according to sources close to the process. ESPN.com

Sources told ESPN.com that Wolves owner Glen Taylor and Warriors counterpart Joe Lacob have maintained a level of dialogue on a potential trade of Love to Golden State, which sources insist would have been clinched by now had the Warriors -- at the behest of new coach Steve Kerr -- relented on their refusal to part with Thompson. The Warriors have been unwilling to offer the Timberwolves more than a combination of former All-Star forward David Lee and 2012 lottery pick Harrison Barnes -- likely packaged with a future first-round pick -- in exchange for Love and swingman Kevin Martin, according to sources. With most of the NBA in Las Vegas for summer league games, the two sides have had a chance to meet face-to-face to talk about a deal mentioned as a possibility for more than a month. The person requested anonymity because both teams are not publicly commenting on trade discussions. Timberwolves president and coach Flip Saunders was seen talking to Warriors GM Bob Myers at the arena on Sunday as the two sides look to bridge the gaps that caused discussions to stall. The Warriors have been reluctant to include shooting guard Klay Thompson in any package, which has been considered a deal-breaker for the Timberwolves. It remained unclear if the Warriors have changed their position on Thompson in the new talks. Booth Newspapers

Warriors coach Steve Kerr has not met face-to-face with David Lee yet after several meetings have been postponed, including the forward’s trip to Las Vegas. But the two have spoken several times and kept in touch via text message, with Kerr early on having talked to both Lee and Klay Thompson about their names surfacing in trade talks and rumors regarding Kevin Love. “They both get it,” Kerr said. “I told them, ‘I know you get it. It doesn’t make it any easier.’ But this is why you really get paid. I mean, you get paid made all this money, is it really for coming into a gym for two hours a day and shooting jump shots? We’ve been doing that for free our whole life, you know? You get paid because you can get traded, and you have to uproot your family. You can get hurt, you can get booed, and people on the message board are crushing you. That’s where you actually earn your money in this league, where it actually feels like work.” Contra Costa Times
