HoopsHype Greg Smith rumors

February 17, 2015 Updates

I think they are keeping a hole card, just in case. I expect Greg Smith to be waived to make room for Stoudemire. So Bernard James can stay in the open roster spot that he now occupies. If Jermaine O'Neal decides to jump into action, the Mavericks could make room via Ricky Ledo. I agree with you that you simply cannot have enough big men in the Western Conference. If you run into the Clippers, Grizzlies or Blazers in an early round, you're going to need that extra bulk. And those six extra fouls. I'm not a Larry Sanders fan at all. Kanter would cost too much and really, after that you're talking about guys that would not be heavy lifters. Jermaine, if he's fully committed and in basketball shape, would be a palatable option. According to the source, the Mavs are giving up "nothing" in the deal, which was first reported by Yahoo Sports. The Bulls are simply dumping a little bit of salary to help them make another move. Smith, who will make $948,163 in 2014-15, fills the Mavs’ need for a low-priced banger off the bench, the role filled by DeJuan Blair last season. ESPN.com

The Chicago Bulls signed free agent Greg Smith to a contract for the remainder of the season and fully guaranteed for next season, a league source told RealGM. For the Bulls, the signing represents a wise and proactive investment in Smith, a 6-foot-10 center capable of serving as a contributing reserve on a championship caliber team. Despite his season-ending knee injury, Smith was expected to be a valued player in free agency, and only became available when the Houston Rockets released him and he cleared waivers. RealGM
