![]() The New Orleans Hornets have picked up the contract options for shooting guards Xavier Henry and Greivis Vasquez for next season. New Orleans Times-Picayune Henry, who was acquired in a trade from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for a 2013 second round pick earlier this month, has not played in a game yet for the Hornets because of recovering from an ankle injury he suffered in training camp with the Grizzlies. He could play his first game on Wednesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder. New Orleans Times-Picayune |

![]() Greivis Vasquez remembers sitting in the Grizzlies' locker room with his former teammates at a time when idle chatter focused mainly on who might be leaving. "We all knew a trade was coming," Vasquez said. Memphis Commercial Appeal "I was shocked," said Vasquez, who returns to FedExForum tonight for the first time with the Hornets. "It hurt me a little bit because I like Memphis. But they needed big men and a small forward to help Rudy (Gay). And we had too many guards. They weren't going to play me, Jeremy (Pargo), Josh (Selby) and O.J. (Mayo). But I wouldn't say they gave up on me too fast. Maybe if Darrell (Arthur) didn't get hurt they wouldn't have traded me." ![]() Desiring a backup point guard with NBA experience, the New Orleans Hornets traded second-year small forward Quincy Pondexter to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday for guard Greivis Vasquez. Vasquez, 6 feet 6, 211 pounds, can play both guard positions and averaged 3.6 points and 2.2 assists last season as a rookie with the Grizzlies. Vasquez was a first-round pick by the Grizzlies in 2010, becoming the first Venezuelan-born player to be drafted and only the third Venezuelan to play in the league. New Orleans Times-Picayune “We feel this is a trade that benefits both teams,’’ Demps said in a statement. “We will miss Quincy, and we thank him for his efforts, professionalism and work ethic. We are excited to add Greivis Vasquez to our team, organization and community. Greivis is an exciting big guard that plays with a passion that we hope will thrill our fans at the Hive.” New Orleans Times-Picayune |

Do you think the Memphis roster can be kept together? I hope so. I hope so. We have a good team. We have high expectations. Next season could be huge for all of us. We can make something special happen like going to the conference finals or maybe going to the finals, but it’s going to take a lot of work. Grantland |

![]() After the shocking report earlier today regarding the 'Black Mamba' signing in Italy becoming the unofficial 'Pasta/Pizza Mamba', the Memphis Grizzlies Venezuelan point guard Greivis Vasquez officially decided not to sign with Israeli organization Hapoel Jerusalem and will remain in Venezuela, this, after both sides agreed on terms of a deal where Vasquez would earn a monthly salary of $28,000. Eurobasket understood that the reason as to why Vasquez decided to stay in VZ is because of a decisive meeting with President Hugo Chvez, who offered the local mega-star a 'huge 2-month marketing deal with the government which includes a lot of money,' source very close to the situation revealed. Eurobasket.com Meanwhile, the Eurobasket report about president Hugo Chavez was rebuffed by Robert Gonzalez, Vasquez's agent in Venezuela, and by Rene Rincon, media consultant. "There's nothing with president Chavez. The only thing going on is the Greivis Vasquez project, an initiative to hold basketball clinics all over the country" said Rincon. El Universal |
