There are two contracts the Magic would love to package in with any deal they make and that’s Glen Davis and Hedo Turkoglu. Neither is overly attractive, but one or both could be the cost of doing business, especially for a team that wants Reddick or a team that wants to use Orlando’s TPE to facilitate a bigger deal. Hedo Turkoglu won’t play when the Orlando Magic face the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday and could be out of action for an extended period to give his troublesome left hand and his conditioning time to improve. “I talked about at the beginning of the year and when guys were hurt that I always want to put them back on the floor when they’re comfortable and confident and have rhythm,” Jacque Vaughn said Friday afternoon. “I just think it’s best for us to take that approach with Turk until he gets right. I did it with other guys, and I think it’s just best for us to take that approach, and he deserves that approach.” Orlando Sentinel

Hedo Turkoglu on Sunday continued his rehabilitation regimen from breaking his left hand Nov. 2 and undergoing surgery Nov. 3. Turkoglu worked out in the Magic's weight room at Amway Center and shot baskets afterward. Vaughn would not say when he expects Turkoglu to return to game action. But Turkoglu ostensibly will need at least one practice before he plays in a game, and so far, he hasn't practiced yet with his teammates. Orlando Sentinel

A doctor’s check-up that Hedo Turkoglu hoped would lead him one step closer to returning for the Orlando Magic turned sour on Wednesday and the veteran small forward could be out of action another month. When doctors determined that one of the screws in Turkoglu’s surgically repaired left hand had loosened, his hand, fingers and arm were put back into a cast and his timetable for returning for the Magic was adjusted. Turkoglu broke the fifth metacarpal in his left hand in the season-opener on Nov. 2 and a day later he had surgery to implant a metal plate and several screws to help the broken bone heal. The hope was that Turkoglu would be able to return after a four-week period or the equivalent of 14 games for the Magic. NBA.com

The kicker would seem to complicate trade scenarios involving Lopez. For example if he is traded at a point where he's still owed $40 million, the acquiring team would have to pay him $6 million upfront. As Mark Deeks explains in ShamSports, writes, a trade kicker "can only be bothersome to teams and emphatically benefit a player." Deeks also notes that Hedo Turkoglu's contract also contains a "trade kicker" of 15%, complicated his inclusion in any deal. NetsDaily

Kupchak met with new Orlando General Manager Rob Hennigan on Tuesday in Las Vegas, but it was termed more of a get-acquainted meeting. After all, Kupchak talked with Hennigan the previous day . . . and the day before that . . . and . . . hasn't everybody heard this all before? Orlando wants any trade partner to absorb more players than just Howard, but the Lakers have no interest in also acquiring forward Hedo Turkoglu, 33, who has two more years and a weighty $23.8 million on his contract. Bogdan Tanjevic, who has decided to come back and coach the national team in the Qualification Round, may be missing more than just the veteran guards. There is also the possibility that 33-year-old Hedo Turkoglu may not play. There is speculation in the Turkish media that Turkoglu will not be with the team in the Qualification Round, although the country's basketball federation has not ruled him out. FIBA Europe

“If I was given all the same circumstances, and again no foresight as to what the outcome was, I still think I'd make the same deal. So am I sorry or do I regret doing it after the fact? Yeah. But you can never operate with that foresight, you can prepare and you have as much information and you put that information into the equation and you try to decide what that outcome might be but that outcome has to play itself out. And in this business, there are so many variables that are a factor.” Toronto Star
