Hedo Turkoglu looked serene after the Denver Nuggets crushed the Orlando Magic on Sunday night at the Pepsi Center. As teammates dressed and attendants packed up the Magic's gear, Turkoglu noshed on the postgame meal and sat in a chair inside the visitors' locker room near the training tables. The truth is, as calm as he seemed, Turkoglu is in a hectic race of his own. Magic officials and Turkoglu hope he can return from a fractured cheekbone and play in the team's first-round playoff series, which could begin as early as this Saturday. Orlando Sentinel

Even Turkoglu doesn't know how effective he would be. "I'm just trying to get myself into good shape, as much as I can, and hopefully I'll be able to come back and be ready to play," Turkoglu said. "I don't know how ready I will be, but I'm pushing myself to be ready as much as I can. And if I get the opportunity, I will try to go out there and do my best that I can and help the team." Magic SF Hedo Turkoglu will have surgery Saturday to repair a fracture or fractures in his right cheekbone and will be out at least three weeks, said GM Otis Smith. Turkoglu told the Sentinel after Friday’s practice that he might need the surgery. The Magic face the Sixers in Philadelphia on Saturday night. He said after practice that he was planning to see a doctor to outline a recovery plan. “I might have to have surgery – I don’t know. There’s some fractures,” Turkoglu said. “I didn’t think it would be this bad.” Orlando Sentinel

Magic executives are said to be unimpressed with the assets Howard's three preferred teams could provide in a trade, prompting them to engage in a calculated campaign to expand the field of potential suitors beyond the Nets, Mavericks and Lakers. But the team that can make the strongest case for Orlando to depart from its risky strategy of holding onto Howard are the Bulls, who could offer 7-footer Omer Asik, Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer for Howard and Hedo Turkoglu, sources said. The Bulls also could offer a valuable first-round pick from Charlotte -- top-14 protected in this year's draft but but unprotected by 2016. CBSSports.com
