Both Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik are going into the “poison pill” season of their contracts. But if Houston were to trade them, it would remove only the average salary of Asik and Lin’s contract ($8 million) from the books rather than the $30 million that the players (combined) will make in 2014-15. So both Houston and Chicago would have to make major roster alterations if they want to sign Anthony as a free agent. ESPN.com

According to a league source, the Rockets will make a bid for Carmelo Anthony this summer, even though they probably won’t have cap space and would have to orchestrate a creative sign-and-trade. The source said Houston asked the Knicks about Anthony before February’s trade deadline. New York Post

The Knicks have held discussions with the Rockets about power forward Omer Asik. Even though Rockets president Daryl Morey is the pioneer of advanced statistics and Anthony has never fared well in some efficiency categories, Morey’s old-school instincts believe he could form a terrific Big 3 with Dwight Howard and James Harden. Rockets management also believes Anthony has made advancements in the grit department the past two seasons. New York Post

However, Barcelona and Papanikolaou himself didn’t took into consideration the possibility of his crossing the pond mid-season. After all Barca is still unbeaten in Top16 and one of the Final Four favorites and that’s why they wouldn’t want to lose one of their starters. As for “Pap” he feels great in Catalonia, so far he is satisfied with his performance in Barcelona and he also wouldn’t want to leave the team before the end of season. As a result, the Texans will make their run for Papanikolaou again this summer, but no one can predict at this point what may happen until then. EuroHoops.net

In November, Cuban revealed that when it became obvious that Howard was going to sign with Houston, Morey sent Cuban a text, asking if Dirk Nowitzki was available in a trade. At the time, Cuban viewed it as taunting. “It was like 'na-na-na-na-na.' I don’t know if there were two nas in there or three. But they were in there," Cuban said in November. "I said, are you serious?” But on Friday during the MIT Sports Analytics Conference in Boston, Morey told attendees the reason he contacted the Mavericks was out of momentary “panic” that Howard would bypass the Rockets.
