More on Griffin on Thursday before practice told an inspirational story about working hard. “I’ve heard millions of Kobe (Bryant) stories about late-night workouts,” said Griffin, whose team takes on Detroit on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Staples Center. “One I heard, one time I guess he was in Italy and called Marco Belinelli (of the Spurs) at like 1, 2 o’clock in the morning and asked him if he had a gym for him, and so Marco found him one and he went there to shoot with him. “And he (Belinelli) was like, ‘I thought we were going to just get some shots up, but we had like a full workout.’ Things like that. That’s work ethic, real worth ethic. It’s not just coming in when you have to and going hard. It’s doing extra, going above and beyond.” Los Angeles Daily News

And then when I got to Italy I was like, "What the hell am I doing over here?" I'm going over here to a foreign country and, you know, "What the hell?" I flew into Venice, and the Venice airport is on the mainland, and the city is out in the ocean, so it was like, "Shit." I have seen redemption in my life. I mean, I've experienced it. I was walking the path. I know about God. But it was just leaving that baggage, leaving your luggage alone. You know, you're dropping your bags right there and saying, "Hey, I know what I need to do. I know who's waiting for me." Through the Lakers, through Jerry Buss, through Bill Sharman, God intervened and sent me off to Italy in order for me to get my sanity. Italy was the best thing that ever happened to me. Deadspin.com

Late last month, veteran NBA guard Chris Duhon was ready to get his career restarted, signing a contract to play with JuveCaserta of the Italian League, with an eye on an eventual return to the NBA. But, after agreeing to the deal, Duhon had a change of heart and backed out. The reason, it turned out, is that Duhon’s wife, Andrea, was pregnant with twins, and Duhon decided he needed to remain near her rather than make the trip across the Atlantic. It turned out to be a sound decision, as last week, Andrea Duhon gave birth to twins, two months premature. The babies and their mother are healthy. “Obviously, Chris wants to play, he has a lot of basketball left in him and he was excited to get started again,” Duhon’s agent, Kevin Bradbury, said. “But when he went over the situation, he felt like is family needs him to be home.” Sporting News

Datome is playing his rookie season in the NBA with the Pistons averaging 2.5ppg in just 27 games played. “It is obvious that we would have preferred to play FIBA World Cup because we deserved to play in Spain. Our next goal is to get the pass for Eurobasket 2015. I will play for Italy next summer” said Datome to Repubblica. Sportando
