![]() Kenyon Martin got in Ivan Johnson’s face after he and J.R. Smith got tangled up. Martin said he told Johnson: “not here, not today.” Martin has always been one to get his teammates’ back. It’s another example of the toughness he brings to the Knicks. “You know what I do, man,” Martin said. “I’ve got to protect my guys. Him and J.R. got tangled up or what not and I just let him know, ‘Not here, not today.’ It won’t go past today. It’s just basketball. Sulia |

Atlanta Hawks forward Ivan Johnson enjoyed a solid rookie season this year, working with good touch on the interior and a low center of gravity to average six and a half points and four rebounds a night with his team, playing 16.7 minutes per game. That production fell off quite a bit in the postseason, as the 28-year old rookie missed 11 of 16 shots in five games before registering a "Did Not Play — Coach's Decision" in Atlanta's series-deciding Game 6 loss on Thursday. And, as you can see above, the rookie with the veteran's age did not take the mature veteran's approach in responding to the effusive nature of your typically rambunctious Celtics fan. That is to say, "he flipped a dude off." Yahoo! Sports |

They’re a whole bunch of mess-talkers.” Boston Herald |

If you are wondering if things are all good as far as Ivan Johnson is concerned, consider the scene at the end of Hawks practice today. “Hey, Ivan, did I shoot you out?” Larry Drew called out. “I let you win,” Ivan responded. Drew schooled Ivan in a game of H-O-R-S-E before practice, then afterwards said there would be no more discipline for the rookie’s verbal altercation with teammates during the Celtics game. “He’s back to full status,” Drew said. “He came in and gave me a big hug this morning. I brought him in this morning and shot him out before we got started. He’s back on board.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution ![]() The Hawks sent forward Ivan Johnson back to Atlanta for conduct detrimental to the team. Johnson, who was also fined an undisclosed amount, will miss tonight’s game against the Magic. Johnson was sent home for verbal altercation on the bench during Wednesday’s game against Boston. He did fly to Orlando from Boston with the team after the game before being sent home to Atlanta. Johnson is expected to re-join the team Saturday for a scheduled practice. Hawks coach Larry Drew declined to expand on the disciplinary action, or the reason for it, following this morning’s shoot-around. “We made a decision to discipline him by sending him home, fining him and we will move on,” Drew said. Atlanta Journal-Constitution “With me, no it’s not a concern,” Drew said of Johnson’s documented disciplinary issues. “Isolated incident. If it were anybody else we would have taken the same measure. I spoke to him before he left. We had a good conversation. It was like I told him, we will do what we have to do. He will miss tonight’s game. We will see him when we get back to Atlanta. We are moving on.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution |

Forgive Ivan Johnson if he doesn’t know exactly who he is playing against. It didn’t matter to the 27-year-old rookie when he was in training camps with the Hawks trying to make their roster. It doesn’t matter now when he’s making an impact at the NBA level. “My thing is, I don’t really watch basketball so I don’t know who anybody is,” Johnson said after sinking two free throws with 4.6 seconds left to give the Hawks a 93-91 victory over the Timberwolves Saturday. “So when I match up against them, they are a regular player. I know the major players like LeBron [James], Kobe [Bryant], [Dwyane] Wade but all the extra ones I don’t know. Even if I did know them, I’m not going to be afraid. We are playing basketball.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution |
